NEWPORT HARBOR HIGH SCHOOL

Hello NHHS Community,

The school recently received information on how our high school ranked in both the Washington Post - America's Most Challenging High Schools and U.S. News and World Report - Best High Schools rankings. Below are the results of each of these rankings:

Washington Post - America's Most Challenging High Schools

Out of approximately 22,000 schools surveyed nationwide, NHHS ranked in the Top 3% at 566th in the nation. The ranking is calculated by adding the total number of AP, IB and Advanced International Certificated of Education Tests taken by all students at the school and dividing it by the number of graduates for the 2012 Senior class. U.S. News and World Report - Best High Schools

Out of approximately the same 22,000 schools surveyed nationwide, NHHS once again ranked in the Top 3% at 575th in the nation (this is up from being ranked at 745th last year, an improvement of 170 spots and we are the only Newport-Mesa Unified School District high school that made an improvement from 2012 to 2013!) which gave us a "Silver Medal" designation nationwide. Schools that rank in the top 500 are recognized as "Gold Medal" school. The final ranking is determined by creating an index based on either AP or IB (whichever program has higher participation, which is AP participation for our site) tests. Seventy-five percent of the score is determined by test pass rate, and 25% is graduate participation rate in those tests based on the class of 2012.Data source:
