Our December Meeting
With all of us "making our individual lists and checking each one of them twice" for everything that we still have to shop for, school parties that we have to organize and attend while planning that special menu before Christmas, we would like for you to join us at our next monthly meeting on Thursday, December 20, 2012 from 6:30-8:30pm to relax, see old friends, make new ones and enjoy yourselves! We will discuss what we would like to do in 2013 in the way of group fundraising for the 2013 PieceWalk, there will be refreshments and various autism resources up for raffle!
If you would like to contribute towards the "Autism Resource Raffle" or help with either the adult or children's refreshments for that night's meeting, please contact Lorrie by email at [email protected] to let her know how you can help and/or what you will be bringing.
We will meet in the Promises Room on the 2nd floor at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, located at 222 NW 15th Street, near downtown Oklahoma City. A detailed map can be accessed here.
Child care is provided, but registration is required before each meeting. To make sure that we are prepared in advance, our volunteers need to know how many children to expect. To register for childcare during this month's meeting, please email Lorrie Servati at [email protected] as soon as possible.

Autism-Friendly Movies
If your family hasn't had the opportunity to attend a "Sensory Friendly Film" yet, you may want to join us this Saturday, December 8th at 10 a.m. to see the "Rise of the Guardians" at AMC Quail Springs 24 or AMC Crossroads 16 Theatres! In order to provide a more accepting and comfortable setting for this unique audience, the movie auditoriums will have their lights brought up and the sound turned down, families will be able to bring in their own gluten-free, casein-free snacks.
Moore Warren Theatres just started offering "Sensory Sensitive Shows" once a month. the movie "Rise of the Guardians" will be shown on Saturday, December 15th at 11:00 a.m. These shows will run on the big screen with brighter house lights and softer volume, and audience members are welcome to dance, sing, shout, talk, etc. The Sensory Sensitive Shows will be offered once per month. Normal ticket prices apply, and tickets can only be purchased at the Moore Ticket Office starting the Wednesday before the scheduled show. I have also been told, if I get the opportunity, that I should visit the Warren Diner.

Oklahoma Parents Center
At last month's meeting, Ellen Kimbrell of The Oklahoma Parents Center came to teach us more about IEPs, a subject that most of us have had an experience, or two, with in connection to our children attending school. I thought it was very educational and I wanted to share with you how to reach her in case you ever need an advocate.
The Oklahoma Parents Center also offers a Lending Library for parents, caregivers and professionals who are interested in becoming more educated about disabilities, basic rights, IEPs, and advocacy.

What is the PieceWalk?
The PieceWalk was born to give Oklahoma families affected by autism a day of togetherness, a day to support awareness in our state, and a means to support Oklahoma autism programs. With over 6,000 walkers and 500 runners participating in the event each year, it is the largest autism event in our state.
