Beth Jacob invites you to its Israeli Film and Cultural Festival
Saturday, March 4 at 8:15pm: Igor and the Crane's Journey (view trailer)
Sunday, March 5 at 10:30am: The Journey of Vaan Nguyen (view trailer)
Sunday, March 5 at 2:00pm: Turn left at the end of the world (view trailer)

Each of the three films presents a portrait of an immigrant journey in which protagonists question who they are in a country whose culture is so different from their place of birth.
The universality and relevance of this question will be among the issues raised during moderated discussions following each film.

The weekend also includes an art exhibit byAlice Zilberberg, an award-winning photographer and visual artist.
The festival's $30 admission includes all three films and lunch on Sunday. One day only ticket price is $20. To order tickets please call 905.522.1351

Fix Your Ear!

Integrating the values we subscribe to is often challenging.  Immediately following the Sinai experience, we are introduced to a man who fails to assimilate the message - a Jew who chooses slavery over freedom.  We allow him to remain a slave but first his ear must be pierced.  Why the ear?  Because he failed to hear the oracle extolling the virtues of liberty and freedom (Kiddushin 22b).

The Sefat Emet (1847-1905) asks a simple question.  The problem wasn't his ear.  He heard God's voice like everyone else.  The deficiency was in his intellect that did not process the information.  Wy then do we target the ear?  His answer: the piercing is simply a sign that the message never went any further.  It stopped at the ear and never made a meaningful impression on his life.

We live in a world of Ear Men & Women.  Deep down we all understand the core values of life.  Our challenge is simply integration.  So tap your ear and let the message sink in. Do not let the Ear Man prevail!

Shabbat Shalom.

Rabbi Daniel Green
