A SHABBAT OF SOLIDARITY: NOVEMBER 22

Don't Let the Terrorist Win!

This past week, four saintly Rabbis were butchered with knives, meat cleavers, and guns, by Palestinian terrorists as they stood in silent prayer wrapped in Talis and Tefillin. In their defense, a Druze Israeli policemen sacrificed his life as well.

This attack was not only aimed at our brethren in Israel but was directed at the essence of our Jewish faith - our holy synagogues and rituals.

Four heartbroken widows released an open letter to world Jewry to honour this Shabbat in memory of their dear beloved husbands, fathers, and grandfathers (see letter below).

CIJA & the Canadian Rabbinical Caucus have called on all congregations to join together in solidarity:

"This week's terrorist attack on a Jerusalem synagogue struck at the core of Jewish community and identity.  Now is the time to reaffirm the sanctity of our synagogues and stand shoulder to shoulder with Israelis...  Let us unite to honor and pray for the victims."

Join us this Shabbat as we remember the victims, pray for the injured, and the wellbeing of our brethren in Israel, and stand resolute in the face of terrorism.

Open Letter From Four Widows

Sing aloud, O Nations...for He avenges the blood of His servants

...and atones for His Land and His people. (cf. Deut. 32:43)

A Request from the Devastated Widows and their Bereaved Families

Our hearts are broken and melting amidst tears over the spilling of the blood of the martyred heads of our families - may God avenge their death.

We turn to you, our dear brothers and sisters of Israel, to join together to increase the Heavenly mercy upon us.  Let us take upon ourselves to increase love and brotherhood between people, communities, and diverse groups.

We implore each person to sanctify this coming Shabbat as a day of Ahavat Chinam (unconditional love) - a day of sensitive speech where we refrain from all kinds of divisive and harmful conversations. This will assist in the elevation of the souls of the heads of our families who were slaughtered for the sake of His Holy Name.

May this act bring about a great elevation of our husbands' souls, slaughtered in sanctification of God's Name, may He be blessed.

May Hashem look down from above, see our suffering, wipe away our tears. and say "Enough!" to our troubles. May we be worthy to witness the coming of the Messiah very soon - amen, amen!

Signed with a broken and crushed heart.

Chayah Levine & Family, Breina Goldberg & Family, Yaakovah Kupinsky & Family, Bashi Twersky & Family
