"Abraham raised his eyes and he saw." (Genesis 18:2)
Isn't it self-evident that to see forward your eyes need to be raised?
To truly perceive reality requires special eyes. Abraham's "elevated eyes" represent his clarity of vision that became his raison d'etre.
It's no coincidence that during his great challenges of life (when he is told to uproot his family and later to sacrifice his son) the destination is deliberately obscured. Yet, despite the turmoil and uncertainty, in both instances, Abraham knows precisely in which direction to travel.
The world itself is called "Olam" - which denotes concealment and obscurity. It's tough to break through the static of life and appreciate the blessings and gifts around us. Yet, the greatness is often not only at our fingertips but in our hands. The key is to raise and elevate our eyes.
