Get Your Chisel Ready

It's interesting that Moshe's career as leader begins and ends with the writing of a Torah.  His first is etched into stone tablets; his last is ink on parchment.  The Lubavitcher Rebbe z"tl points out that there is a fundamental difference between these two forms of writings.  Ink on parchment remains surface based while etching in stone penetrates the essence of the rock.

The Torah describes how blessings will accompany the Jewish Nation if they follow the "Chukim."  While the term Chukim generally refers to "statues" it can also denote "etchings."   Sometimes in life our religious observance is surface based like ink on parchment.  True blessing, though, is actualized when the effect is etched into our being and penetrates our essence.

King Solomon challenges us to, "Inscribe them upon the tablet of your heart" (Mishlei 3:3). So get your chisel ready and begin to etch.  If we do this collectively our problems will be solved.

Shabbat Shalom!
