Colorado Edition - January 16, 2013
|
Hello again
In keeping with the spirit of the New Year and the resolutions we all make, this week's newsletter focuses on lasting personal and professional improvement.
|
Don Kuhl and Friends
|
Leading off is our featured audio interview with Don Kuhl, a small business owner and inspirational force, who has made a career out helping individuals and organizations effect true, lasting,
positive change.
Don is the founder of The Change Companies, based in Carson City, Nevada. Since 1988, he has built a successful global company premised on his insight that making small changes can have a major impact on our lives. Don has proven thousands of times over that developing a habit of regularly examining our own choices can be essential to our success and quality of life.
When Don is not running The Change Companies, he and his alter ego may be found prancing around - red cape flowing behind him - living the life of Binder-Man, a business superhero for the 21st century. Indeed, in his newly released book, The Adventures of Binder-Man: And how he changed his world (kind of), Don explores the significance of navel-gazing, leaking toilets, tattooed strangers and many other such (delightful) adventures.

Entrepreneur Empowers Parents to Take Immediate Action to Prevent School Intruders
A Cranberry Newswire Feature
Locksmith and security expert Dave Jabas has turned out a rapid e-book to help parents take immediate steps to better secure their children's schools.
Published this week, We Can Protect Our Children, spells out with clear, easy-to-understand descriptions and illustrations, how fast and simple upgrades to a building's door locks and related security hardware can prevent or significantly hinder an intruder's access to students and teachers.
"When we have multiple sets of eyes watching out for each other and identifying weak points, it makes it much easier to find and solve any security issues," Jabas writes.
Jabas is CEO of WholeSaleLocks.com. He selected Cranberry Newswire to help him spread the word about his new e-book.

Owners Scott and David Menough
Brothers Scott and David Menough's small business is for the birds. Literally. As owners of individual Wild Birds Unlimited franchises in the greater Denver area, the Menoughs have each met the needs of wild bird enthusiasts for more than two decades.
As part of their loyalty and community-building efforts, the Menough brothers co-host the weekly one-hour BirdTalk Radio program, which is broadcast each Saturday at noon (Mountain) on 710 KNUS AM.
The show explores bird feeding, bird watching, nature, and our ecosystem in an entertaining and informative fashion.
Good-natured fellows that they are, Scott and David recently appeared as guests on Business Unconventional and began the program with a parody of their own program. Actual hosts David Biondo and Dean Rotbart are, after all, certified bird brains.

HOMERISDOMS™: There Really is a Perfect Buyer for Whatever it is that You are Selling
|
By Homer Hudson Hillis, Jr. B. Unconventional Certified Entrepreneur #1 A Cranberry Newswire Feature
My bagging machine is an antique. The new ones are digital and cost like $50,000. But mine was still functional, I just didn't need it any more because I'm not bagging beads like I used to.
If I can find a buyer for my antique bagging machine, then my fellow business owners, you should know that you can find buyers for whatever surplus you have that is just sitting there.
Okay, so here is how I found that one person in the world to sell my outdated bagging machine to. I called a guy in Oregon who still buys a lot of these bagging machines. And he buys them used. So guess who he knows? He knows the guy who sells him used bagging machines when he needs them.
So I networked with my contact in Oregon and he put me on to the guy who is in Dallas. I drove my bagging machine right up to his front door. I didn't wait for him to come to pick it up from me.
And he gave me money.
Remember this, nobody is going to be able to appraise your unwanted items if the buyer doesn't get to inspect them firsthand and if you're not there in person to make the case. Craigslist and eBay are nice. But letting the customer "kick the tires" - or the bagging machine, is what seals the deal (if you'll excuse the bad bagging pun).
When you look around your shop or you look around your office, you are going to find something that you need to sell. You need to hunt down the person or people who sell used products like that.
There is, if you'll make the effort, somebody in the world today looking for those products that absolutely no one else wants or knows what to do with. I tell myself that each morning when my feet hit the floor.
