2007 Cascina Roera, 'San Martino' Barbera d'Asti Superiore DOC, Piedmont  

From the prestigious hillsides of San Martino comes Cascina Roera's newest take on a very old classic. Winemakers Claudio Rosso and Piero Nebiolo hand-select these Barbera grapes from the soils of the San Martino district of Piedmont to craft a wine of superb quality and complexity. A month long fermentation in concrete vats with grapeskins included, followed by a two year stint in oak barrels within the winery's cellar, help to deepen the flavors of the Barbera grapes. Aromas of blackberries, violet, wet earth, autumn leaves, and mushrooms leap from the glass, combined perfectly with profound flavors of dark fruit and a sapid mouthfeel of velvet and tobacco, making a wine that is a personal favorite of our staff and our customers. A perfect bottle for wine geeks, connoisseurs, and beginners alike!
