MEN DOING SOULCOLLAGE

Katherine L. Ziegler

Babies gazing at a Mardi Gras parade, a couple dancing, a troop of monkeys with a librarian, a bird pulling a very long worm out of the ground-many such collaged images have helped men plumb the depths of their own inner wisdom. Similarly to women, they come to SoulCollage with nagging questions about career, physical health, longing for true connection with both masculine and feminine elements within themselves and with others, and the overall purpose and meaning of their lives.

How do men find SoulCollage? With more than 2100 Facilitators in 37 countries around the world (and 47 U.S. states), it's easier than ever, and a relatively small but growing number of pioneering men find their personal, and sometimes professional, lives enriched. Most accept the invitation of women they know- partners, relatives, friends, bodyworkers, psychotherapists, and colleagues at work. Others-Iike Australian Facilitator and Singchronicity coach John Rodriquez - browse the Web, where John found a Daily OM course by SoulCollage Trainer Anne Marie Bennett. North Carolina Facilitator couple, Johnny and Mili B. Dilllard, teach groups their "Just Blank Cards" form of SoulCollage to enhance communication with others as well as oneself. See some of Johnny's beautiful cards here.

How do men use SoulCollage? Here are a few of the stories gathered by Facilitators. For SoulCollage readings, the person asks a question about a life issue that's been on their mind, then selects ("draws") a few SoulCollage cards at random, sight unseen, from among a number of cards, self-made or made by others. Then one uses imagination to let the image on the card first introduce itself (I Am One Who...), then give its response to the question. This random selection assures that the conscious mind is not choosing cards it thinks are pertinent. People are often amazed at the helpful responses of their own unconscious body-mind which the collaged cards access.

One man asked, "Why do things like Ouija boards, psychiatry, mysticism and religion make me so skeptical? I can't understand how other people can believe this." The first two cards he chose just "confused" him, but he kept at it. The third card showed a woman diving with perfect form into clouds far above the earth. He pondered it for a moment and suddenly said, I Am One Who makes the leap -as he himself had just done! The leap from the left brain to the right, perhaps?

Another man could not manage to stop overeating, although his obesity was worsening his three serious health conditions. The pattern had started in childhood, after he saw a terrifying film: even the adults could not stop aliens overrunning the earth. But work with his "inner child" had only a temporary effect. His SoulCollage question: "What do I need to do to stop this compulsive behavior and start acting in my own best interest?" The first card he drew-a grim, fierce, hugely-muscled bodybuilder lifting weights-said, "I Am One Who is completely determined to accomplish something that's utterly useless." Other cards encouraged him to feel the volcanic energy within him "and make use of it in a productive way." He changed his eating pattern, revived his earlier interest in sports, and started losing weight for real.

Another man was frustrated that all his considerable efforts produced no change at his job. He could not stop laughing when he drew a card showing someone relaxing in a hammock. "Just go with the flow till your internship ends," it advised. "Get your license, then do what you want."

California SoulCollage Facilitator Daniel Cook, runs a successful sustainable design and marketing studio. He reflects on three cards he made ten years ago, and how their meaning has changed for him as he has matured. "When I started with SoulCollage, I saw it more as art. When I went through a personal crisis, what drew me into SoulCollage even deeper than when I started was how powerful it is for divination, for guidance in moving toward a deeper level of what your life is about."

"Ten years ago, this card (pictured right) meant being spiritual around skeptical people. I now feel life is a mystery; the only spiritual idea I find important is that of being a human being on the planet right now among other human beings. Being decent to other people and loving well and living life to the fullest is what's meaningful. Now my attitude is more like the three men at the top, not wanting other religious or spiritual ideas about the nature of life's mysteries to be imposed on me. I don't need those ideas to feel I have a place in the universe."

"This Muse card (pictured left) hasn't changed for me," Daniel says. "I Am One Who is creative, it tells me. The yogi figure means being guided by deeper information, or soul, inside myself. The white dove is that very pure, beautiful thing within yourself being put out into the world. The person diving represents the trust to just dive into creating; you're immersed, it's all-consuming. A minor aspect of it would be the ego or shadow side, the drive for attention and fame-the desire to make a splash!"

"This card (pictured below) was originally called Trickster Dance - I Am One Who takes risks and tries to surprise. Now it has become I Am One Who trusts that everything will be OK. There's a freedom that goes with trusting that you can literally balance life on thin ice or whatever, even though there's a shrunken, worried, fearful part sitting there on the ledge."

Daniel designed Seena B. Frost's book SoulCollage Evolving and re-designed www.soulcollage.com in collaboration with Jim Schofield -the man who joined Kylea Taylor and Seena Frost in starting it all and supporting its evolution!

Your SoulCollage Cards: Keys to Transformation
Audrey Chowdhury,  M.S., ATR-BC, SoulCollage Trainer
October 16 & 23, 2014 - 4:00-6:00 pm Pacific Time
4 CEUs available (learn more...)

Our outer world often reflects our inner world. When our SoulCollage cards help us understand our interior lives, they can begin to help us transform our daily lives. In this course, you will:
  • Experience how working with your cards can bring clarity, focus, and healing to your life.
  • See others' cards, share your own if you want to.
  • Explore the power of the SoulCollage process, in particular the Suits, to bring structure to your inner and outer realms.
  • Delve into the dynamics of the relationships between the Neters in your own deck.
  • Learn how the Neters' interactions can influence your inner and outer experience.
Audrey has learned much from Seena about the suits and explored new dimensions of them in her own process. She will talk about how to work with resistance and conflicting energies that show up among our cards, and how to bridge the divide between Neters of different Suits. We will explore relationships among Neters, and how those can play out in your daily life. In other words, we will discover how our cards are, indeed, "Keys to Transformation."
