A few things to remember:

  • This year finals week begins on Monday, Dec. 16th.
  • 24 Hour Quiet Hours will take effect on Friday, Dec. 13th
    starting at 10 p.m.
  • To ensure an atmosphere that is conducive to study, we expect that all students will be respectful of others especially during the stressful time of finals.  All polices violations will result in a meeting with a professional residential life staff person and/or appropriate sanctions.

  • The last hot meal served in The Greenview will be lunch on Thurs., Dec. 19th.
  • Students can check out a "To-Go" meal for Thursday dinner (if meals are left on your plan).
  • Storm's Den will close on Thursday, Dec. 19th at 3 p.m.
  • All students are required to leave within 24 hours after their last final.

All residence halls officially close for the semester break at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 19th.

If you need to stay on campus......

  • Only those living 50 miles or more from campus with a valid verifiable reason (ex: work, school, international student) will be allowed to stay on campus during break.
  • Those that meet this qualification must complete a Request to Stay on Campus FormForms must be submitted on or before Dec. 11th.
  • Anyone found to be in violation of this procedure will be subject to a $150 fine charged to their student account.  This applies to anyone, including, but not limited to, those who do not notify The Office of Residential Life and Housing that they will be staying on campus.

  • For your safety, all buildings will be locked down for winter break.
  • Somers access will be through the Somers front desk only. You will need to sign in at the front desk each time you enter the building.
  • All other doors will be locked and no card access will be granted.
  • Arrangements will be made for access for students with permission to stay.

  • Students leaving their cars on campus during break may park them in the far side of lot 17.  This ensures they will not be towed for snow removal.

  • All College rules and policies will apply and will be enforced during the entire Winter Break.
  • Guests are not allowed on campus during this time.

Winter Break Checklist

Make sure you don't forget the little things:

  • Close and lock windows.
  • Close drapes.
  • Unplug all small appliances
(aquariums do not have to be unplugged).
  • Clean your room or apartment thoroughly.
  • Empty all garbage containers before leaving.
  • Remove all perishable food items.
Empty, defrost, and unplug all refrigerators (make sure you place a towel in front of the door as it is thawing)
  • APARTMENTS ONLY:   Turn thermostats down to 60 degrees Fahrenheit for conservation.  Do not turn the system off as the pipes will freeze and cause damage.
Remember to leave at least 5 inches between the electric base-board heater and your furniture.
  • Remember to bring your key/ID home with you and lock your door(s).
  • If you are leaving your car, remember to park it in the appropriate lot (see: "Parking" in next section).
  • College officials will be checking your room or apartment during the break period to ensure that you have completed the tasks outlined in this checklist. Violations may be fined if these tasks are not completed or violations of the College Code of Conduct.
  • Last person has left the room and locked the door.

Have a great break!!

Care of Fish and Plants

Students may bring plants and fish to Somers Front Desk to be cared for, all are left AT YOUR OWN RISK.  All plants and fish must be clearly marked with the owner's name and directions for care. If your fish/plant is left over three days past the Winter Break they will become property of the college.
