Chores for Change Launches This Week
Encinal Service Project, May 3-10th
Your child has the power to make a difference! On Thursday we will be giving students an optional homework assignment encompassing the themes of engagement and compassion with a real-world application: helping support people with cancer. Many of our families have been touched by cancer in one way or another and just a few months ago, one of our own 5th grade Encinal Eagles was diagnosed with lymphoma. He is undergoing treatment and thankfully has a good prognosis. However, it is in times like these that we want to give pause and find ways to remind kids that their heartfelt support and power to make a difference is crucial.
For this assignment, students can earn money by doing household chores - for example, setting the table, washing the car, or helping an elderly neighbor clean the porch - whatever you and your child decide is appropriate. It is suggested that students earn between $.25 and $2.00 per chore. Students will receive a donation box this Thursday during the kickoff assembly where they can store their earnings. This is a one week fundraiser, ending May 10th. Students should bring their donations to class where they will collect and tally the funds.
Adults also have the opportunity to join the cause. Blood transfusions are typically needed to support chemo patients and blood banks need your support to keep their supplies stocked. Menlo Park has a newly opened blood donating facility at 445 Burgess Drive, across the street from Burgess Park. You can schedule an appointment by clicking here or check out this flyer with more information. If you mention Encinal School, a support card will be sent to our cancer patient!
Thanks for your support in this school-wide service activity.

Reminder for Current 3rd Grade Parents & Students
Tomorrow is Music Registration Night
Wed, May 1st, 6-7pm
Encinal is proud to offer a high quality music program with instrumental choice starting in 4th grade. Beginning next year, students in 4th grade at Encinal will be asked to make a choice with regard to how they pursue their music studies. Students will choose to continue with Orff instruction OR to specialize on a particular Band or Orchestra instrument.
In order to help students make a well-informed decision, we are hosting a Music Registration Night from 6:00-7:00 on Wednesday May 1st. This is an event for both students and parents. The music team will play various instruments and explain all of the ins and outs of the Encinal music program. Parents will then register their children for music classes so that we can create a schedule that accommodates their choices. While there will still be an opportunity to register after this event, it is highly recommended that students make a choice and register at this event to ensure correct placement in the music program.
