Important Safety Message from Principal Burns

safetyfirst
Dear Families,

I'm reaching out to you today to ask for your help to ensure our students arrive to school and return home safely.  We've had a couple of near misses with cars and students on bicycles already this school year.  Both situations, regardless of child or adult error, had high potential for injuries.

On Monday, I spoke to all students via ENTV about improving their visibility while en route to and from school by wearing
flourescent vests when riding their bicycles and installing flashing lights on their bikes. This increased visibility will go a long way in reducing risk for our students.  In partnership with the Atherton Police Department, we will have a limited number of vests available at school if students are unable to produce their own vests in a timely manner.

As always, please adhere to the rules of the road. Park only in designated spots and never drop off students in bike lanes. Our students need to be able to count on drivers following the rules of the road as they navigate busy roads and intersections.

Having our students wear the flourescent vests while cycling, coupled with our recent initiatives to increase carpooling, will go a long way to reduce risks for our students.

In partnership,

Ms. Burns
