Newsletter for the Taylor Prairie School Community
May 9, 2016
Greetings from Principal Haessly!

Hello Taylor Prairie Families!  Can you believe there are only 18 school days left of this 2015-16 school year?

At the end of the school year comes the time to say goodbye.  Please congratulate Patty Krall, Special Education Instructional Assistant who will retire in June, after working 17 years here at Taylor Prairie.  We will also be saying goodbye to Mariah Keller, Kindergarten teacher, who will be moving to Eau Claire.  Lastly, to Dawn May, 1st Grade teacher who will be moving into a new role in the District as a New Teacher Mentor.  Dawn has taught in the District since 1995.

Also leaving, are the 157 first graders who will be moving onto Cottage Grove School.  We wish them well as they begin their new 2nd grade adventure in September.

Wishing you and your family a safe, fun summer!

Connie Haessly

Safety with the Cottage Grove Police
The Chief Layber and Officer Helgeland, from the Cottage Grove Police Department visited all of the first grade classrooms.  They talked to students about personal safety, and the police's role in the community.

Last week they talked to students about safety at an all school assembly.  Officer Karatko brought Lars, the Cottage Grove K9, to show off his obedience skills.

We greatly appreciate the Cottage Grove Police for being a partner in teaching our children about safety!

The Golden Archer Winner is....

Kindergarten and 1st grade students listened to and evaluated the five nominees for the 2016 Golden Archer Award.  We had 171 votes for "The Book with No Pictures".  Over 35,000 Wisconsin students voted on the Golden Archer Award and the state winner was ..."The Book with No Pictures"!!!!  Evaluating books helps students identify what characteristics make for quality literature and illustrations.  More information about the award is here:  http://www.wemta.org/programs/golden_archer_awards.cfm.

All library books are due to school by May 26th!  If you have lost a book/s, please send cash or a check made payable to Taylor Prairie School.

MGSD Current Student Registration via Infinite Campus 5/1-6/30
MGSD Parents:

You received an e-mail last week from the District Registrar about your student's registration on Infinite Campus.  This is for children who are currently enrolled. The e-mail contained information on how to locate and complete your student's registration.  If you do not have, or do not remember your Infinite Campus Parent Portal login, please complete and submit a Help Request form to have your account reset.  You can find the Help Request form on the district website:  http://www.mononagrove.org/family/infinitecampushelp.cfm

During the Online Registration, you should review each demographic area and update, remove, or add anything which is not current.  (Demographics are such things as address, cell/work phone numbers, etc.)

Part of the online registration includes the Release Agreement-Directory Data Disclosure Authorization. This is very confusing.  Our goal is to make it easier for everyone to understand.

Q  How is this information used?
A  School staff uses this information whenever we publish your child's name, photo, and/or grade in such information as the yearbook, newsletter, classroom/hallway work, the newspaper, honor roll and graduation publications.  This could also include information shown on-line.

Q  How can I see what is currently withheld?
A  You will see "Permission to Withhold Info" in the index - a Zero (0) means that this information can be released.  A One (1) means that this information is being withheld.

Q  If I want to allow schools to include all information, what do I choose?
A  You will want to choose #1, Yes, you may release directory data for my student.

Q  Am I required to change this information every year?
A  No, you are not.  You may SKIP this section if you are not making a change.

Q  Does the school publish a student directory?
A  No the school does not publish a directory, although you may be asked to share information in your child's classroom, or with PTO.

If you have any questions, please call the office at 839-8515.
