The AOLS Welcomes Its First Ever Woman President!
|
Dasha Page, Hon. B.Sc, M.A., O.L.S., O.L.I.P, became the first woman president of the Association of Ontario Land Surveyors on February 26th. Dasha is Vice President and Director of Matthews, Cameron, Heywood - Kerry T. Howe Surveying Ltd. Ontario Land Surveyors - Professional Engineers with offices in Niagara Falls and Lindsay, Ontario. She is an active member of the Niagara Falls Chamber of Commerce.
Dasha holds degrees from the Czech Technical University in Prague and the University of Toronto and has over 25 years of surveying experience.
She has an extensive land surveying experience planning, managing and directing the production of legal surveys and plans. She has managed many projects for public and separate school boards, Ontario Realty Corporation, Ministry of Transportation, Ontario Power Generation, Hamilton Power Authority and Toronto Transit Commission.
One of the issues that Dasha will address over the next year will be the aging of the Association's membership. This appears to be a continued trend with the aging of baby boomers. It does, however, create opportunity for new surveyors to build life-long careers.
Taking on the role of President is a huge commitment and it is great to see the support that Dasha is getting from her colleagues. They are, from left to right: Allan Heywood, OLS; Dasha Page, OLS; Andrew Cameron, OLS; Deb Visser, administrator; and Gerald Hickson, OLS (Lindsay office).

Thank You to Sponsors and Exhibitors

On behalf of Council and members of the Association of Ontario Land Surveyors, please accept our heart-felt gratitude for your generous contributions to sponsor our 122nd Annual General Meeting. This certainly assisted in making our AGM a success.
We hope to see you once again at our 123rd Annual General Meeting in Deerhurst Resort, 1235 Deerhurst Dr., Huntsville, ON, from February 25 through February 27, 2015. We will contact you closer to that time with all necessary details.

The "Interpretive Guide and Supplement to The Performance Standards for the Practice of Cadastral Surveying" was a big hit at the AGM - we ran out of printed copies! For an electronic copy of the Guide, please click here.

Once again, the Scavenger Hunt was enjoyed by many of the students as well as members of the Association. Seven teams participated this year, with "Team Awesome" (comprised of York University students) winning the prize of one $150 Visa card per team member (total prize value of $450)! Thanks to all who participated for helping to make this event a competitive but fun activity during our AGM.
A special thanks to Nancy Grozelle for helping out with the scoring of the event and to Shawn Hodgson and Al Jeraj for their input and ideas.
