Youth in Philanthropy Alumni Network
Welcome!

Welcome to the first Foundation for MetroWest Youth in Philanthropy Alumni Network newsletter. We've missed you and would like to reconnect to hear about all the great things you've been doing since you graduated from the program.

Even though you may have graduated years ago, we want to stay connected and help engage you in continuing to inspire other young philanthropists. Please forward this newsletter to any friends who also graduated from the program. Parents, please make sure your YIP grads get this too!

Let's all work together and continue to inspire the next generation of philanthropists.

We hope you enjoy these updates. Please let us know if you have any recommendations, stories you would like us to share, or any other ideas you have for this newsletter. Give us a call at 508.647.2260 or send us an email anytime. We'd love to hear from you!

P.S. Are you going to be in the MetroWest area this summer? Let us know if you're interested in a YIP alumni event and we'll help plan it!

Join us on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at the Wellesley Country Club to hear Julie Toskan-Casale, Co-Founder of the Youth and Philanthropy Initiative (YPI) talk about how she has enabled young philanthropists across the world to donate millions of dollars to charities.

In 1985, Julie was instrumental in establishing M∙A∙C Cosmetics, one of the cosmetic industry's biggest success stories. After M∙A∙C was sold to Estée Lauder, Julie dedicated herself to the practice of engaged and informed philanthropy and established the Youth and Philanthropy Initiative of the Toskan Casale Foundation.

At the event we will be honoring Anna Josephine Conrades with the first Young Philanthropists Award for her work in establishing the Boston Society of Young Philanthropist Fund at the Foundation for MetroWest.

Exclusively for YIP alumni, we are offering a discounted ticket price to this event. Purchase your tickets by April 1, 2014 and receive the YIP alumni price of $25 - discounted from $75. Limited tickets are available. To purchase your ticket, email Development Officer, Cori Kaufman.

Alumni Feature: Sam Slater

In each newsletter, we will update you on the lives of other YIP alumni. Today, we would like to introduce you to Sam Slater of Framingham who has taken what he learned in YIP and continued to make an impact in his community...

Like most teenage boys, Sam Slater loves baseball and hanging out with his friends. Unique to his age, he also has a strong passion for giving back to his community.

In 2011, as a sophomore at Framingham High School, Sam was looking for volunteer opportunities in his community. He noticed a flyer on his school bulletin board about a unique program called Youth in Philanthropy. After further research, Sam decided to apply to the program.

"I liked that it was more than just a one day volunteer opportunity," said Sam. "Also, the fact that it involved learning about local nonprofit organizations and real money interested me. I knew I could make a difference in my community and that it would have a long-term impact." Continue reading>
