Understanding Degenerative Myelopathy (DM)
Canine Degenerative Myelopathy (DM) is a progressive neurologic disease of the spinal cord. It is characterized by weakness and coordination of the hind limbs. As the disease progresses the hind limbs will become weaker and weaker until they are paralyzed. DM is most often caused by a genetic gene mutation, and is comparable to ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease in people. At this time the disease is incurable, but there are things you can do to help slow the progression and provide your dog quality of life.

In Loving Memory Of...
Our Sweet Friend, Kona
We were lucky enough to first meet Kona back in 2012. Her vet diagnosed her with Degenerative Myelopathy (DM) so she started visiting us to swim and receive laser and massage therapy. Kona loved her swimming! And we sure loved seeing her. She was a happy face and a lively warm soul that brightened up everyone's day when she walked through our door. Although there was a time when Kona could no longer walk well on dry land, she was still able to move in the water and could swim well. Kona's wonderful family would take her to a lake house every summer. She loved these trips and would spend the majority of her days there enjoying the water. It was such a pleasure to be a part of your life Kona, your beautiful soul will continue to live on and your strength to inspire others. You will be remembered, dear Kona.

Fetching More Out Of Life
Welcome to the Team, Danessa!
I was born and raised in Colorado Springs surrounded by multiple species of pets including cats, dogs, reptiles, birds and farm animals. I moved to Denver 10 years ago where I was introduced to the vet field and instantly fell in love. Everyday brings a new learning opportunity and another chance to meet people that love animals as much as I do. In my free time you can find me enjoying nature, playing with my beautiful golden/lab mix Bella, crafting, snowboarding or watching a band, ballet, or play. I look forward to learning everything I can about the rehab side of animal care and can't wait to see what the future holds in this new adventure! A couple years ago I was involved in a freak accident that put me in the care of many doctors and physical therapists. I suffered damage to nerves in my right hand making it impossible to completely close or make a fist. This made it difficult to enjoy everyday activities that I took for granted. I also had significant damage to my neck causing me to have a 4 week migraine. After testing, surgeries and lots of doctor visits, I was sent to a physical therapist who helped me regain use of my hand and eventually helped eliminate the throbbing in my head. From that point on I realized how amazing physical therapists really are and the benefits they have on our overall health. I plan on fetching more out of life by learning the ins and outs of the physical therapy so I can help people and their furry kids get back on track with the life they deserve!

We hope you are always fetching more out of life!
