Here's the Scoop!
August 28th, 2014
This bee was happy as can be on a zinnia the other day. We're happy to report our flower garden across the street has been a haven for honeybees every morning, and they seem to be most happy on the purslane right along the front edges of the beds. If you're out walking in the area this Labor Day weekend, be sure to take a look at our happy bees!
There have been hummingbirds as well. Their favorite flowers so far have been the low-growing red cuphea and the tall peach porter weed. We've had lots of little skipper butterflies and a painted lady butterfly, too, on the zinnias and gomphrena. For more on the garden, look HERE.
For all of you who enjoy trying new things, we've gotten in a heat tolerant, climbing (Yes, it climbs!) green called Malabar spinach. The one we're carrying is also highly ornamental, with pretty red stems and almost succulent-like leaves that are both edible on this heat loving native of India and Indonesia. We've planted some on the arbors across the street as well. If you'd like to learn more about Malabar spinach, take a look HERE.
Finally, a reminder: We will be CLOSED Monday, September 1st, for Labor Day. Thanks for reading, have a restful holiday weekend, and we'll see you soon!
