What would happen if Last Chance Ranch was not there for the animals?

Where would the over 700 horses and 1000's of dogs be without the help of our rescue? The answer is not an easy one to hear but the truth is most of the horses we receive would likely have had to endure a long, cramped trip to the slaughter house. So many of the dogs we receive would have been euthanized due to lack of space in the high kill shelter.

The number of rescues able to help these animals is quickly dwindling not to any fault of their own but because of the huge financial burden that is placed on the rescue to care for so many animals. Last Chance Ranch's mission is to do above and beyond or whatever it takes to save neglected and abused animals. Through care and training we bring them to the point where they can once again share a productive and loving relationship with humans again. Keeping to our mission is also quickly taking its toll on LCR and the ability to say yes when we are called for help.

It is heartbreaking to receive the daily calls from people losing their home and pleading for us to help them with their animals, telling us they have nowhere else to turn. Many times we have to turn them down due to the fact that we just cannot financially take on another horse or dog. At the end of the day it takes a mental toll on all the staff to hear the pleas, not being able to help and just wondering what will happen to these animals when they have no shelter and food.

Last Chance Ranch is in critical need for additional funds more than ever in 2013. With caring for over 1300 animals this last year, and since the economic uncertainty has translated into decreasing contributions each month.  However, the calls for help are always increasing. We are in desperate need of your financial support to face the challenge of continuing with our lifesaving programs for helpless animals. Please give what you can today and we ask that you also reach out to friends, family and employers. The animals are counting on you!

Please press the DONATE button at the bottom of this page. It will take you to our website, where you can help turn around the future of another homeless animal who needs our assistance.

LCR Chronicles
As always, things have been extremely busy at Last Chance Ranch.  In the last month and a half, we have brought in 2 horses, 1 donkey, 1 mule and 7 minis.  All of these came to us because their owners could no longer afford to care for them.  As we mentioned above, your donations, adoptions and continued support are so important to allow us to continue to help these animals in need.  Horses pose a particular problem because they are so costly to bring in and maintain until they can be adopted.  The average healthy horse costs about $800 in vaccines, coggins, dental and farrier care within the first 60 days.  We are finding that we are needed more then ever as an animal control facility for horses in this area.  More and more people are afraid to take their equine friends to auction or even sell them privately because they are uncertain what the future will hold for them.  Many are afraid they will go to slaughter.  Your continued support through donations and adopting allows us to be able to offer a place for horses to go in urgent situations.  Along with the horses, we of course have many dogs available for adoption and various other animals.  This month we had Fiona the golden retriever test positive for heartworm.  We knew we had to treat her, but even with the help of local veterinarians, treatment is still costly.  Eventhough we really do not specialize in cats, we had a mother cat and kittens left in a bin at our gate. As well as five 3 week old kittens left at a volunteer's doorstep.  This was rather taxing to us since our handful of foster homes were already filled with kittens.  You can help by bringing donations of kitten food (dry & canned) and cat litter to us.  These kittens and their mom will be available for adoption once they have been weaned and spayed/neutered.  Don't forget we currently have many pocket pets available for adoption too.  We currently have very friendly teddy bear hamsters, guinea pigs, chinchillas, rabbits and even bearded dragons available for adoption.  Please complete an application today by visiting our website.  Here are some of the many animals we currently have available for adoption.  Please adopt today!

Levrick the three legged dog!
levrick

Please watch Levrick's video by clicking here!
URGENT! Levrick has been in the kennel too long and is showing a bit of stress. He needs to get out, be exercised more and loved.  He actually makes a great biking companion even with just 3 legs. Will you be the one to rescue him and show him life on the outside?  Let us know if you would like to meet Levrick and maybe take him home for a weekend.  Levrick would do best in a home without other dogs or cats.
He originally came to LCR with a severely fractured back leg that needed to be amputated because it was beyond repair. He is doing well on his 3 legs and you would think he was always like this. Even through his broken leg and then surgery Levrick has been everything you would want in a friendly happy well adjusted dog only about a year or so old. He keeps his kennel clean so we are thinking he could be housebroken, He LOVES to play fetch and will gently give it back or toss it to you to throw again for him. He loves to romp with the other dogs, but because of his size and sometimes rough play we don't recommend him with small dogs. He is real a diamond in the ruff and an awesome new best friend for anyone. He is very sweet and loving. He is a sponsored dog so his adoption fee has been paid.

Kindle is/has adjusted just fine & is doing great!  We had a few 'bumps' in the beginning, but it was an adjustment for both Kindle and for myself & son.  We quickly found our new routine & everyone is doing well.  The only complaint is from my son and that's because Kindle sleeps in my bed, not his..Kindle only stays with my son until he falls asleep.

Kindle has shown he has manners and is very smart and so friendly...and quiet.  When we walk, if he sees another dog or person, he's interested, but has never barked or growled at anyone or dog.  Although I usually walk him, my son can walk him as well.  I've received so many compliments from the veterinarian's office staff and neighbors about how sweet his disposition is.

kindle He loves almost any dog treat, rawhide & tennis ball out there and ice cubes.  I attached some pictures for you also - I'll be sure to send some more as time goes on. We are so happy to have Kindle a part of our family!
