Dear Fellow Animal Lovers,

February is a month to remember many things.  Your favorite love for Valentine's Day, what the groundhog is really saying about spring, and what your pets need for the New Yeardog with toothbrush. If you own a dog in Pennsylvania, it is very important you remember to renew your dog license for your best friend or friends. All dogs must be licensed with your county courthouse on a yearly basis or if you have microchip, you can get a lifetime license for your dog. Some counties allow you to purchase your license on line. Please visit this site to check your county and order online. Other counties sell licenses at various locations and their county courthouses. Please visit this site for a full listing of counties and agencies to purchase licenses. Make sure if you own a dog over three months of age that your dog is properly licensed. February is also pet dental health month.

Many veterinary offices run specials during February to perform dental cleanings on your cat brushing teethpets. Cats and dogs are prone to dental health issues. Now is a good time to have your pet checked if you have noticed bad breath in your cat or dog.

We will still take more dog stories, but we would like to hear from our other animal adopters as well. Get your story and pictures into us today. Please email Chris with your information.

Tennessee Walking Horse

Ace is a 13 year old Tennessee Walking Horse roughly 15 hands tall who came to us when his owner was no longer able to provide care for his horses. He was in training off-property for a month and is now back at the ranch. He is green but willing and very level headed.

Please note that Ace does have allergies and gets shots to control his symptoms. He is doing very well for his shots and takes all shots like a champion. He will make an excellent riding horse for anyone. Please visit our website to fill out an application to adopt Ace.

  Successful Adoptions

Cruz the one eyed little poodle.

I just celebrated, this past November, my third year as a volunteer at Last Chance Ranch (LCR)...my kids didn't think I'd last two weeks! It is not easy both physically and emotionally, but by far, one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.

You get pleasantly teased month after month with comments like "aren't you bringing one home yet?" "You haven't fostered yet" "oh come on Rose, Romeo loves you so much". Over these past three years there truly have been a handful of dogs I would have brought home, but convincing certain family members was my issue. (There are times you want to bring 20 home a week, just to bring them into a home for a little while)...these animals we are saving are just so full of love and gratitude!

So it finally happened. I couldn't help myself and I couldn't take it anymore. His name is Cruz. I met him back in August when LCR took him in. He was found on the streets and he was matted and suffering a terrible eye trauma. The doctors couldn't save his eye and the kill shelter would have put him down. Lori (who is LCR) got them to do the removal of the eye and she would be responsible for finding Cruz a forever home. I actually met him two days or so after his eye removal. He was dirty, he was depressed and there was something so very special about him.

Week after week he wagged more and more. I would take some break time in his kennel where he would greet me with licks and wags. The more I saw of him the more in love I was falling with this little man. After much talking and thinking and re-thinking we all made the decision together to accept Cruz into our home as our first "foster" doggie! I only wanted to know who won the sporting pool upstairs they must have had for how long it would take Rosie to bring a dog home! Finally....after three years!!!

Our last dog was Midnight (the most beautiful and baddest black lab in the world). There is a song by Eric Clapton called "After Midnight"....I added the words "ain't gonna get another dog"...and we laughed as we brought Cruz home on November 24th, 2012. We decided that we would celebrate November 24th as Cruz' birthday (this year being his fifth) since they really do not know how old he is. We don't really care how old he is. His presence in our home has already made ours a more wonderful place!

To conclude, we did it and finalized our adoption of Cruz on December 22nd,2012! Lori, Chris, Barb, Judy, Jackie (and anybody else I've met there)...you have all enriched my life by accepting me into the LCR family and I can't say enough wonderful things about Last Chance Ranch!

Cruz the "one eyed" epitome of a shelter dog has found his forever home, but the funny thing is, I'm not sure who is doing the rescuing because he has rescued us as much as we have rescued him! He is our little man!! (and, by the way...who won the second pool for how long will it take for Rose to adopt him forever?) Just askin....

Save 50%We have decided to continue this promotion all year long.  All dogs that have been available for adoption for more then 30 days will be half price in hopes of finding them all a new home sooner.  Please check our website or email us to see if a dog qualifies for half price adoption fees!
