Walkathon Watch!

Friends

Principal's Note

principalAs I watch the landscape around St. Jude School change slowly with beautiful autumn colors, I find myself reflecting on the growth and change in our students which is evident each day in so many small ways.  This week alone, we have celebrated the leadership among our middle school students through student led prayer.  We have recognized and congratulated our students for becoming more respectful of the learning environment as they move about the school.  Additionally, we have applauded the learning connections observed in and out of the classroom.  It has been a privilege for me, as the school administrator, to openly recognize students for their great effort and growth.

Like autumn, positive change and growth is sometimes subtle but reveals itself over time.  As a school community, we will continue to look for ways to celebrate our gifts and uniqueness, both individually and collectively.  In the next few weeks, we will be initiating a school-wide student recognition program to continue to develop and foster a positive culture in our learning community.  Celebrations of our continued growth will continue to move us forward.

I hope this weekend affords you the time to relax, enjoy some extra time with your family and reflect on the changing landscape.  I look forward to welcoming your children back to school on Wednesday.

See our Goal Tracker to the Left!

 Friends

Thanks to the hard work of so many students, we are more than half way to our Walkathon goal with collections to date of $5,327.50 and there is one last week to go.  We are asking all students to do their part in support of one of the most significant fundraisers for the school.  Help us get to 100% participation!  No donation is too small!

Here are the highlights of the Walkathon event:

  • Location: Great Hollow Lake of Wolfe Park
  • Date: Friday, October 12 (rain date October 19)
  • Check-in: 3 pm to 4 pm
  • Walk Begins: 4 pm
  • Activities: bounce house, table top games (ring toss, basketball, bean bag toss, can smash), scavenger hunt, snacks, and hospitality
  • Incentives: Receive a free Dress Down Coupon for participating the day of the walk and have your name entered to win a $50 Gift certificate to Linda's Story time if you donate a pair of gently used shoes, sneakers or sweats.
  • Open Invite: Have a friend, neighbor or family members interested in some Fall fun?  Have them come along and join us for a scenic walk around Great Hollow Lake!
  • Attire: Walkers are asked to wear the St. Jude gym uniform, St. Jude spirit wear, or a St. Jude sports uniform
  • Adult Supervision: Students participating in the Walkathon event must be accompanied by a parent or an adult.

Please contact Donna Kokenos if you have any questions.

Basketball Tournament News

tournamentWe still have a number of slots open for shifts at the St. Jude Basketball Tournament.  The sign-up sheets can be found in the lobby of the school.  Please be reminded that each family who has students playing basketball is expected to work at least 6 shifts.  There are many types of volunteer positions, so there is sure to be something for everyone.  More information can be found in the Tournament Volunteer Guidelines pamphlet.

Additionally, on Wednesday, October 19th at 6 pm we will be setting up for the tournament and many hands make light work.   There will also be a training session for those who wish to volunteer to keep score, act as announcer and run the clock.  More information can be found here

Don't forget to share your alumni news with us!
Thank You HSA!

Last Monday, evening progress reports were made available online to parents for the first time through the use of Edline.  The response has been overwhelmingly positive and this software was generously funded by the HSA.  Updated reports will be released monthly by teachers on the dates specified in the school calendar.

Remember to Turn Off Your Alarm Clocks...

alarmBecause there is no school on Monday and Tuesday!
