October 15, Ladies Aid Luncheon and Fall Market, Noon
Due to the poor vendor commitment, the ECH Ladies Aid has cancelled the 3 Annual Quarter Auction previously scheduled for September 13, 2014 in the ECH Gym.Instead we will hold a Luncheon and Fall Market at St. Lucas United Church of Christ, 11735 Denny Road, St. Louis, Missouri 63126. The event will be October 15, 2014 at noon. Cost will be $10 per person. All is invited and welcome.
Come join us for good fellowship, good food and a head start on your holiday shopping, while supporting ECH and learning more about the young people served by this worthy agency. October 16, The Steffen Peschel Trio Concert, 7pm
St. Johns Evangelical United Church of Christ in Mehlville is welcoming the community to attend a free concert and an evening of jazz by The Steffen Peschel Trio, on Thursday, October 16 at 7 PM.
The town of Reichenbach, Germany is the home of The Steffen Peschel Trio as well as the birthplace of St. Johns' founding pastor in the 1830's, Pastor Louis Nollau. The concert is a part of St. Johns' continuing effort to nurture friendship and support with churches in Germany today that were once in East Germany.
The concert is free and open to the public, and a free-will offering will be accepted and appreciated. A dinner will be served prior to the concert from 5:45 to 6:45 PM to all who make a reservation. Call Diane at 314 892 0848 to RSVP.

October 18, Masculine Side of Grief, 9-Noon This conference is an opportunity for men and women to understand how values often associated with traditional masculinity (independence, strength, and action over emotion) impact how men, women and families cope with loss. We will explore how the masculine side of grief can bring positive energy to coping with loss, how it can create blocks to grief and how both genders can use creative strategies for healing. The 25th Annual Oktoberfest at Valley Center UCC in rural Deepwater, MO. We will be serving Brauts (hand made by members of our congregation -1200 pounds worth!), German Potato Salad, Kraut, Smoked Turkey, Chicken and Noodles and other goodies including homemade breads and desserts. There will be a Bazaar featuring crafts and baked goods. Live Music will also be provided by members of other churches in our community.
This event benefits the food pantries in both St. Clair and Henry County, and over the past 3 years we have been able to donate over 2 tons of food from this event. As this is our 25th year, we set a goal in January to donate 2500 pounds of food in 2014. We have had "mini" food drives throughout the year and as of September 1, our congregation has donated nearly 2300 pounds of food.
Our guests can receive $1 off the purchase of their meal by bringing a non-perishable food item and we will also accept cash donations for the food pantries. We also contribute a portion of our proceeds to the pantries as well. Event flyer.

October 18, Festival of Sharing Rainbow Bike Ride
Festival of Sharing is hosting a bike ride fundraiser to support The Rainbow Network. http://www.rainbownetwork.org/ All riders will depart the fairgrounds at 10:30 am (after worship). Options to ride are 20 miles ~ Green Ridge, 50 miles ~ Calhoun and 70 miles ~ Clinton. There will be hospitality teams at the turn around points on the ride. Registration is $30 with the goal for each rider to raise $360 to provide a full year scholarship for a student in rural Nicaragua. Riders should raise the $360 through private fundraisers prior to the ride. Soon there will be a website for this event where donations can be made on line. If you do not have a bike but want to participate bike rentals will be available from Champion Bicycle Shop at the Katy Depot in Sedalia. Registration forms / links will be available soon. On October 19, 2014 NAMI St. Louis will host "Opening the Doors To Spirituality" for persons with a mental illness, their loved ones and a cross-section of spiritual leaders throughout the St. Louis area. October 20, From Klinghoffer to Ferguson and Beyond - Discussion, 7:30pmThe Lee Institute Speaker Series hosts a panel discussion, "From Klinghoffer to Ferguson and Beyond," where leaders from the St. Louis arts and faith community come together in conversation to create unity and understanding. As the City of Ferguson and the community of St. Louis search for peace from the brokenness and violence instigated by the shooting death of Michael Brown, the panelists seek to engage the community in respectful dialogue. Now the hard work of creating systematic change begins. Panelists from the arts and faith community will include: Batya Abramson-Goldstein, Executive Director of the Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC); Reverend Traci D. Blackmon, Pastor at Christ the King United Church of Christ in Florissant; Reverend Dr. David Greenhaw, President of Eden Theological Seminary; Dr. Ghazala Hayat, Professor and Director, Neurophysiology and Neuromuscular Services at St. Louis University School of Medicine and Past President of the Islamic Foundation of St. Louis; and Timothy O'Leary, General Director of Opera Theatre of St. Louis. On October 26, 2014 at 4:00 PM, Ivy Chapel UCC members who wish to provide treats for our young trick-or-treaters come to church and park in the parking lot. We encourage everyone to dress in costume and to decorate your trunk or vehicle. Adults stay by their cars, while the children trick or treat their way around the parking lot. Those Ivy Chapel members providing candy/treats should arrive around 3:30 in the upper parking lot and park in designated spots around the outer edge of the lot. Trick or treating begins at 4:00. Because of the historic significance of a lawsuit brought by a mainline denomination against a State, the Missouri Mid-South Conference, the Illinois South Conference and The First Congregational Church of St. Louis have invited Mr. Donald C. Clark, Jr., General Counsel of the United Church of Christ, to be in St. Louis on Sunday afternoon, October 26, 2014. Mr. Clark will present additional information, perspective and analysis regarding the lawsuit and answer questions. The forum will take place in the sanctuary of The First Congregational Church of St. Louis, beginning at 3pm and conclude no later than 5pm, with a reception following in the church's fellowship hall. St. John's Chapel, United Church of Christ, 4344 S. Fremont, Springfield, Mo. will be having their annual Holiday Bazaar, Saturday, Nov. 1st, 8:30am to 2:30pm. This has been occuring for over 25 years. Lots of vendors, our circle sells cookbooks, baked good, and will have a treasure table with lots of good items. November 21-22, Conference Middle School Event
The Conference Middle School Event will be held November 21st - 22nd at Camp MoVal. All youth in grades 6th - 8th are invited to attend this awesome retreat along with their adult youth leaders. The fun will start on Friday evening at 7 pm and we will conclude the retreat at 5 pm on Saturday. Sheltered Reality will be our special guests on Saturday to not only share their music and message with us, but to teach us how to create music together. What Child is this?: A Jazz Nativity returns this December for its 4th season with an all-new production. The Oîkos Ensemble under the direction of saxophonist, Rev.Cliff Aerie, will return as the musical hosts. They will once again welcome one of St. Louis' great jazz vocalists, Ms. Kim Fuller, as their special guest artist. At each performance you will be uplifted by the professional caliber of the musicians, soloists, and storytellers.
