February 16, Sausage Dinner, Noon - 4 pm

Join St. Luke's UCC in Imperial for a Sausage Dinner.  Adults, $10 and children, $5.  Dinners served family-style, carryouts available.  Morning worship at 10 am only.  Event Flyer.

February 16, Valentine's Dinner, 11 am to 2 pm

St. James UCC in Morrison, MO is hosting a dinner/lunch.  Adults, $10.  Children, 2-6, $5.  Fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, vegetables, cole slaw and homemade bread and pie.  Worship will be held at 10:30 am, all are welcome.  Event flyer.

February 16 and 23,  African-American Spiritual Traditions, 10:45 am 

African-American Spiritual Traditions,
taught by student pastor Sonya Vann, will survey the experiences and thoughts regarding various forms of expression, movement and practice which are found in the African-American church. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to delve into the theological, artistic and historical understanding of the African culture in America as we discuss the effects of slavery, Jim Crow, the Civil Rights Movement and prosperity on what is known today as the "black church". February 17, Benjamin Jealous Lecture, 7:30 pm

A special invitation is extended to attend an upcoming lecture at Webster University, St. Louis, MO.  On Monday, February 17 at 7:30pm they will welcome recently retired president and CEO of the NAACP, Benjamin Jealous. 

 

Mr. Jealous will visit Webster University to share his lecture, We Got What We Fought For, But We Lost What We HadFrom Brown v. Board of Education to mass incarceration, Benjamin Jealous recounts a watershed conversation with his almost century-old grandmother about how young Black Americans came to be the most murdered generation in the country and the most incarcerated generation on the planet. He explains the untold risks in the related trends for all Americans, including the hidden connection between skyrocketing public university tuition and swollen prison populations. This event will be held on Monday, February 17 at 7:30pm, with doors opening at 6:30pm.  Mr. Jealous will be speaking in the Loretto Hilton Center for the Performing Arts at Webster University, located at 130 Edgar Road.   An Evening with Benjamin Jealous is free and open to the public and is sponsored by the Multicultural Center and International Student Affairs at Webster University, the George Herbert Walker School of Business MS in Forensic Accounting Program, and the Student Activity Fee. Visitor parking for this event is located in the Garden Park Plaza located at 568 Garden Avenue.

February 20, Early Detection for Alzheimer's: Know the 10 Signs, 1 - 3 pm 

 

Knowing the 10 Signs highlights the importance of early detection.  Learn the difference between normal aging and the warning signs of dementia, and receive information on how to seek diagnosis.  This helpful seminar will be held at St. John UCC, 945 Wolfrum Rd, St. Charles, MO 63304.  No registration required.  Event flyer.

February 22, Open and Affirming: Blessing on the Way, 10 am

If you are an Open and Affirming congregation, talking about becoming Open and Affirming or thinking about starting the conversation, if you want to explore how to be effective allies, this meeting is for you. Come be in conversation with others, learn what it means to be Open and Affirming and how to fully express extravagant welcome to all God's children.  If this sounds of interest to you and/or your church, join the Gateway ONA on Saturday, February 22 at First Congregational in Webster Groves at 10 am.   

 

Registration $15 per person/includes lunch or $75 per church with 5 or more attending.  The keynote address will be presented by Rev. Dr. Jo Hudson.  Also available - Workshops around various issues and concerns including: Initiating ONA Conversations;  Biblical Perspectives;  the ONA Process; Transgender; Youth, GLBT Legal Issues; Bisexuality; Advocacy...and Featuring Resources; Resource People; Displays, Fellowship, Food, and Fun!

March 1, Kenyon College Chamber Singers Concert, 7 pm 
 

Hope United Church of Christ will host a performance of the Kenyon College Chamber Singers as part of their 2014 Spring Concert Choir on Saturday, March 1st, at 7:00 p.m.  Kenyon College is a private liberal arts college in Gambia, OH associated with The Episcopal Church.  The Chamber Singers Consists of over fifty undergraduates chosen by competitive audition.  The group is noted for its versatility of vocal style and presents an eclectic mix of a cappella repertoire.  This is the fourth time the Chamber Singers have appeared at Hope thanks to Pastor Sarah McCann, herself a past member of the Kenyon group.   The concert is a congregational effort as members of Hope provide not only a meal for the group, but also provides overnight lodging in host homes. The public is invited to attend the performance at Hope UCC, located in St. Louis Hills at 6273 Eichelberger Street.   For additional information, contact the Hope office, 314-353-2288.

March 9, Naval Academy Women's Glee Club Concert, 4:30 pm

The internationally-acclaimed U.S. Naval Academy Women's Glee Club will be in the St. Louis area March 6-10, 2014 for a series of public performances and school visits on the first stop of their three city Spring Performing Tour to St. Louis, Memphis and Nashville.

 

The main public concert will be a Salute to America's Heroes concert on Sunday, March 9, 2014 at 5:00 p.m. at the Parkway United Church of Christ, located at 2841 N. Ballas Road, St. Louis, MO 63131.  The concert is free and no tickets required.  Doors open at 4:30 p.m. Press release.

May 18, Friends of Emmaus Festival and Quilt Auction, Noon - 5 pm

Friends of Emmaus Festival and Quilt Auction.  Emmaus Homes in Marthasville, MO will hold their Spring Festival.  40 years as a Fall Bazaar : now the third year as an "Ole Time Country Family Picnic" and famous Quilt Auction on SUNDAY MAY 18 2014 from noon to 5:00 p.m. Dinner served from noon to 4:00.   Outdoor food venders. Flea market;silent auction;Children's games and play area: Crafts"homemade ice cream:all kinds of booths. Our faithful quilters are aging and we are in need of a few new groups to keep this dedicated tradition going for the benefit of our special residents that  live at Emmaus in safety and harmony.
