December 1-29, Advent-Christmas Worship Series

 

St. John United Church of Christ, 405 S. Fifth Street, St. Charles invites you to take a spiritual journey of seeing all things expectant with the possibility of the holy.  The Advent and Christmas seasons are a time when the juxtaposition of the sacred and secular sometimes feel blurred and blatantly opposed.  What could your Advent and Christmas season experience be like if you lived it looking through the kaleidoscope of the sacred?  Please join us for "Sacred", a Sunday worship series, December 1-29, 9:00 & 10:30 a.m. service times.

December 1, Advent Celebration, Noon - 2 pm

St. John United Church of Christ, 405 S. Fifth Street, St. Charles is having an intergenerational Advent Celebration on Sunday, December 1, 12:00-2:00 p.m. in New Fellowship Hall.  There will be lunch, crafts, Christmas cookies, and a special sacred story told by Rev. Ric.  We will decorate a real Christmas tree and Jubilation Choir will lead us in singing of Christmas Carols.  All ages are welcome to attend!  Please RSVP to the church office, (636) 946-0961 if you plan to attend. December 4, Eden Seminary Christmas Concert, 10 am 

 

The Eden Theological Seminary Choir will present its Christmas Concert on December 4, 2013 in Wehrli Chapel in the Press Building at 10:00 am. All are invited to join in this joyous musical expression of Christmas!

 

The Eden Choir, "Voices of Eden", will share a variety of seasonal music including some traditi  onal carols,  classical pieces, and spirituals. The Choir will sing selections from "Ceremony of Carols" by Benjamin Britten and "Jazz Gloria" by Natalie Sleeth. Continuing with long-standing tradition, Eden alumni will be invited to join with the choir in singing the Christmas spiritual, "Jesus, Jesus, What a Wonderful Child". There will be instrumental accompaniment for several of the selections along with some musical surprises as well!

 

Donita Bauer, Director of Music at Eden is excited to share the story of the birth of Christ and the experience of the joy that Christmas brings through the music of the Voices of Eden.

 

The annual concert is an opportunity for students, faculty, staff, and friends of Eden to gather together to celebrate the joys of Christmas as a community. All are invited to the reception following the concert. We hope you will come and join in the festivities!

December 6th, SLAW Annual Christmas Pilgrimage, 9 am - 1 pm

 

St. Louis Association will hold its annual Christmas Pilgrimage at Caroline Mission.  Registration 9:00 a.m.   Closing worship 1:00 p.m.  Tour the facility, meet the kids and do service projects.

No charge.  Just bring finger foods to share for lunch. For more information or to register, call Sandy Stevenson at 636-333-2244.

December 7, Follow That Star: A Jazz Nativity, 7 pm

 

At First Congregational UCC in Webster Groves.  Free to the public, Follow That Star: A Jazz Nativity presents a creative re-imagining of the Christmas story. Featuring the music of The Oîkos Ensemble, this year's guest artist is vocalist Kim Fuller.  Follow That Star: A Jazz Nativity has been seen by more than 2,000 concert-goers in its first two years of production. Re-imagining the Christmas story through the artistry of jazz and the magic of storytelling, this year's program will feature new jazz arrangements of Christmas music and present a new dramatic production that will creatively bring an ancient story to life for today's audience. St. Peters in Owensville is hosting their annual tea.  Proceeds support Helping Hands Food Pantry, ECH and Emmaus Homes.  Reserve a table for 8, $10.  Flyer.

December 7, Annual Christmas Cookie Sale, 8 am - Noon

December 8, Lafayette County UCC Advent Chorale, 4 pm

Join UCC members from Blackburn, Concordia, Emma, Grand Pass, Higginsville, Levasy, Lexington and Mayview for an Advent Chorale at Salem UCC in Higginsville.  Hear adult and children's choirs, bell choirs, and various musicians join together for fabulous event.  All are welcome.  Refreshments will be served after the performances.  Flyer.

December 8, Cantata of Christmas Carols, 4 pm
 
Visit St. John's Chapel, 4344 S. Fremont, Springfield, MO 65804, for an afternoon of Christmas carols, with a complimentary dinner to follow.  Flyer.

December 8, Annual Bake Sale, 11 am - 1 pm

 

Want great homemade cookies, candy and cinnamon rolls for the holidays?  Friedens Peace United Church of Christ in New Melle will host its annual bake sale from 11 a.m. till 1 p.m. on Sunday, December 8. Members of the church will be baking loads of cookies, including hand decorated sugar and chocolate sugar cookies.  Many varieties of homemade candy will be available, as well.  Last year the church took orders for cinnamon and pecan rolls that were frozen and ready to bake, but this year it is planned to have them frozen and ready to take home during the cookie sale.  Come early, so you get the best selection!  Since church services at Friedens Peace are from 10 - 11 a.m., there will be no sales before 11 a.m.

December 13, A Classic Christmas Concert, 7:30 pm  

 

The Choral Arts Singers, directed by Amy Gatschenberger will present "A Classic Christmas" featuring the choral works of John Rutter on Saturday December 7 at Transfiguration Episcopal Church in Lake St. Louis at 7:30 pm, and on Sunday December 8 at Assumption Chapel in O'Fallon, MO at 3:00 pm.   A third concert will be presented Friday December 13 at Immanuel UCC in Wright City under the sponsorship of the Warren County Arts Council.

December 14 & 15, Christmas Cantata, 7 pm and 4 pm 

 

St. John United Church of Christ, 405 S. Fifth Street, St. Charles, invites you to Part One of Handel's Messiah.  The cantata will be performed by St. John's Chancel Choir, soloists, and orchestra, on Saturday, December 14, 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, December 15, at 4:00 p.m. in the sanctuary.  After the cantata, please join us for a tasting party in New Fellowship Hall.
