Dear Friends in Christ:

It is with heavy hearts that we send this letter to apprise you of the outcome of the fitness review for Rev. Jeffrey A. Whitman, our former Conference Minister.  At a moment like this, we must reach deep into the resources of our Christian faith.  In faith, we know that Christ accompanies us on all the journeys of life.  In faith, we know that God's deepest peace is a blessing in our shared life and in our individual lives.  In faith, we trust that Jeff and his family are surrounded by Jesus' Love that is unconditional and everlasting.  In faith, we trust, too, that those who raised the questions of Rev. Whitman's fitness for ministry that led to the review are surrounded by Christ's Love, as are the rest of us.

We are attaching the letter (click here) received today from the Saint Louis Association Committee on Ministry providing information about the fitness review process and the outcome.  We give thanks to God for the faithful and caring work of the Iowa Conference Committee on Authorized Ministry and for the support of our national General Minister and President, the Rev. Geoffrey Black, and the national staff who have assisted.

In this time of major transition in the life of our Conference, we pray for healing for all who have been affected by these events.  We know that many among us have experienced hurt, and for many differing reasons.  We believe that Christ's healing ministry is already at work among us and will be at work with us for many months to come.  May we all join Him in that ministry of reconciliation and the difficult work it entails.
