State of the Program

Dear Friends,

So far this month, we've placed a 2½ year old boy with a family in Kirkland. A few more placements are currently on the horizon and will hopefully happen before the end of the month.

As always, we're here to address any concerns or answer any questions you may have, so please feel free to give Yvette, Gay, or Kathy a call or send an email if you would like an update on your case or if anything comes up!

We wish you a pleasant and enjoyable Thanksgiving holiday!

Sincerely,

AAI Foster/Adopt Staff

Continuing Education for Foster Parents

Training is an important part of the foster/adopt program. The state requires that all foster families take these three courses:

  • PRIDE Pre-service (before licensing)
  • So You Have Your First Placement (during first year of licensing)
  • Parenting Plus (during second year of licensing)

AAI also has its own training requirement:

  • Healing the Attachment Challenged, Angry and Defiant Child, by Bryan Post.

This 4 DVD set and workbook are sent to prospective foster families upon acceptance into the program. We ask that you answer a few questions to confirm that you viewed the video. The WA DSHS website also offers many courses for foster parents and we strongly encourage you to take additional courses to help you better prepare to parent. Be sure to send the certificates of completion to Yvette when you take additional training as she keeps track of training hours for all our foster families.

AAI's 30th Anniversary Celebration
Our 30th Anniversary Celebration was a big success! The party was held on Monday, November 18 with staff and board members in attendance. We enjoyed meeting several adoptive families and their children as well as members of our community. The two hour event was a lot of fun as adults conversed while the children played together.

Quilt Raffle
Party attendees were able to enter a raffle to win a lovely handmade quilt. If you haven't entered the drawing yet, it's not too late! Tickets are $5 each, or you can buy five tickets for $20. One grand prize winner will get the quilt and Lenny the Lion; five runners-up will win consolation prizes, as wellContact Kathy to purchase your tickets!

30 Countries, 30 Recipes, 30 Years

AAI is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year and we're commemorating this milestone with an international cookbook with recipes from 30 of the countries from which we have placed over 4,400 children. The materials have been sent the the publisher and we expect to receive the final product within the next few weeks. Thank you to everyone who has already placed their orders; you've helped make this project a great success!

If you haven't ordered your copy yet, do so today! Click here to download the order form. Completed forms can be mailed or emailed to our office, ATTN: Kathy Sculley. Cookbooks are $30 each, plus $5 per shipping address. The recipes are delicious yet simple, great for home cooks and seasoned chefs alike. Information about AAI's history and pictures from past adoptive families are also included in the cookbook. It makes a great gift item and will be shipped out in time for the holidays!
