Court and Affidavit Delays
Dear Friends,
As you may have heard and seen on the online groups, there are court delays across the board in Uganda right now. Families have been waiting for court dates for months in all parts of the country. We aren't sure why, but as of now there is only 1 (maybe 2 at times) judge hearing all the cases in Kampala. The judge in Fort Portal has not started hearing any adoption cases since he took office. We are still hoping for court dates for our waiting families within the next few weeks, with hope for travel (and homecoming!) before Christmas.
The trend of delays continues with affidavits! Our attorney is taking quite a long time to get affidavits back to us. If you are waiting for affidavits, please be patient. We are staying in close contact with his office and hope to have the missing affidavits in the next few weeks. The good news: two of our families got their affidavits last week and their dossiers should be on their way to Uganda soon!

Travel Alert
There is currently a travel alert for Uganda with warnings of a possible terrorist attack. We advise all of our families traveling soon to avoid areas where large groups gather. I would personally choose to avoid the large and very popular shopping malls (Oasis Nakumat and Garden City) unless absolutely necessary. There are smaller, less exciting stores that will likely not be as attractive a target to terrorists. I know some families like to enjoy the very exciting football (soccer) games but I'd avoid those as well until the travel alert is lifted.
You can find more information on the U.S. Embassy Kampala website. Please also be sure to register your travels with the U.S. government through the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) so you can be contacted in an emergency.
