 State of the Program
Dear Friends,

A lot of things have been clicking along in Ethiopia this month! The courts reopened with the judge in session in Ethiopia last Tuesday after a long summer break. We have had adoptive families passing court this week as well as new court dates assigned for the biological or finder court dates this week. The U.S. Embassy in Addis Ababa continues to receive and process visas for adoptive families, now using their required online visa application, Form DS-260. We also filed the I-600s for two adoptive family cases with USCIS to begin the PAIR process this
month.

IMPORTANT: For families who are still early in their adoption process, please remember to send AAI a copy of the letter you receive from the National Visa Center with your ADD number on it. This letter is very nondescript and easy to overlook. CLICK HERE to see a sample letter. The number is very important for us to have as we are processing your child's case for adoption and requesting their visa for travel home.

As always, our staff is here to help. If you have any questions or concerns about our Ethiopia program, please feel free to contact our office!

Sincerely,

Jessica Shriner, Ethiopia Coordinator

 Featured Waiting Children
We continue to seek families for our waiting children with special needs. In particular, these children living with HIV are still looking for their forever families:

These brothers lost their parents to HIV/AIDS. The older of the two (left in picture) is about 14 or 15 years old and is HIV+. He is a well-mannered young man and is described as a "leader." He does well in school and his favorite subject is English. The younger brother is about 13 years old and has tested negative for HIV. He enjoys playing soccer and watching movies. He gets along well with his peers.

This young girl is 12 or 13 years old and is HIV+. Her parents have both passed away due to HIV/AIDS. She is mature for her age and enjoys taking care of younger children. She does very well in school and is in the top five in her class and has a good vocabulary. She is a leader and finishes chores well. She would benefit from a loving family to help her achieve her full potential.

This boy is about 10 years old and is HIV+. He loves playing soccer and says he wants to be a doctor when he grows up. He enjoys going to school and is in the second grade. He's a good student who studies well by himself but also asks questions in class when needed. He's gone through a lot in his young life and is ready for a forever family.

For more information on these children, please contact Jessica. To see more children currently waiting for their forever families, visit our Waiting Child page.
 Post Placement Reports
We are working our way through a long list of late and missing post placement reports being requested in Ethiopia. Please help us by taking some time to get your late reports written and sent to us as soon as possible! You can easily do so by going to our website and clicking on the green Post Placement Report button. You can upload photos through this site as well.

If you aren't sure if your reports are current or have any other questions, please contact Johanna or Jessica. We would be happy to help!

Keep Those Expiration Dates Current!

reminder

Please remember to keep an eye on your USCIS file, homestudy, and fingerprint expiration dates. Your USCIS approval needs to be current at the date your case is submitted to embassy. If it expires before then, you will need have your homestudy updated in order to renew your USCIS file. Your fingerprints also need to be current at the date of your embassy interview.

If your expiration dates are coming up or you have any questions or concerns about this process, please contact Linda!
