 | State of the Program |

Dear Friends,
Fall is setting in on the Olympic Peninsula and so have the rains! We hope this update finds your family well and settling into the new school year. Our China program continues to have steady placements with traveling families coming home with their children every couple weeks. We are also very excited to report that new applications are coming in; we are optimistic this means we will see some movement with our one to one program in China. We continue to ask families to help spread the word about AAI and our wonderful program and the number of children available in China.
Thailand remains the same: slow. We understand this program is not for the faint of heart and the wait can be challenging, but we do want to encourage families to remain optimistic as eventually things do happen in Thailand and families are matched with children and cases are processed. It is our goal to travel to Thailand after the first of the year. We feel this trip is extremely important to check on families in process, the status of cases, meet with the social workers and hopefully be able to obtain more information on waiting children. We are working on confirming trip dates with the Child Adoption Center and hope to have some good news soon on travel.

 | Important USCIS Update: Immigrant Visas |
 |
Please note there is a new process for the Immigrant Visa Application. This process is replacing the current DS-230 form. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
The following is the announcement from the U.S. Department of State website:
This adoption notice serves to announce the introduction of the DS-260 Online Immigrant Visa Application and Registration. The DS-260 replaces the paper-based DS-230 Application for Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration for all immigrant visa applications, including those filed for children seeking to immigrate to the United States as "orphans" or "Convention adoptees," effective September 1, 2013. Anyone filing an immigrant visa application as of this date must complete the electronic DS-260 Application for Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration and DS-261 Choice of Address or Agent online instead of filing the paper DS-230 Application for Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration (Parts I and II) and DS-3032 Choice of Address and Agent.
If you are a prospective adoptive parent or adoptive parent (petitioner) with an approved Form I-600A, I-600, or I-800 that arrived at the National Visa Center (NVC) from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), you will need a case number and an invoice ID number to complete the DS-260. Starting September 6, 2013, NVC letters to petitioners include both a case number and an invoice ID number. If you received a letter mailed by the NVC prior to September 6 or if you have lost this letter, you should contact the NVC at NVCAdoptions@state.gov or 1-603-334-0700 to request your case number and invoice ID number.
