July 2013
Dear Friends,

Summer has officially arrived, but you couldn't tell looking out the windows of our Port Angeles office. Grey clouds, gusting winds, and random downpours have followed us through June, but such is the weather in western Washington! Luckily, the forecast is sunny through July, just in time for Independence Day.

AAI's Annual Summer Gathering will be held over the upcoming holiday weekend in Wenatchee, WA. If you're in the area, please stop by for a day or stay for the whole event! Read on for more information and how to register.

We wish you all a fun, safe Fourth of July!

Sincerely,

The AAI Staff

FEATURED WAITING CHILD

This boy is 10 years old and HIV+. He is otherwise healthy and developmentally on track. He is friendly, funny, and likes to play with other children. He is mild-mannered and dislikes confrontation. His favorite subjects in school are math and English. He enjoys soccer and playing on the playground swings.

Placing older children can be difficult, especially ones with special needs. If you think you have the resources and love to provide a home for this wonderful young man, please contact Marquita for more information!
Landrieu Passes Amendment to Help Adopted Children Secure Citizenship

WASHINGTON June 19 - U.S. Senator Mary L. Landrieu, D-La, today passed the bipartisan Citizenship for Lawful Adoptees Amendment to the Senate Immigration Reform bill. The amendment provides technical but important fixes to the Child Citizenship Act of 2000 (CCA) and the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) so that automatic citizenship provisions under these laws apply to all foreign-born adoptees of American citizen parents.
