China News: One to One Orphanage Support

AAI recently applied for the One to One orphanage support program in China. This program matches our agency directly to one orphanage that we will provide with financial assistance and volunteer help. Supporting an orphanage through this program allows AAI to receive more non-special focus and special focus children onto our individual list, bypassing the typical "shared list" experience many of the child files go through.

AAI is in need of families with completed dossiers in order to be approved for this program. If you or anyone you know might be considering an adoption in China, now is a wonderful time to apply!

Older Girl In Urgent Need of Family

This wonderful girl was born November 9, 1999. She is healthy and has no known special needs. She is happy and smart, and enjoys reading, dancing, and listening to music. She is in the third grade of a local school. She is eager to go to a family in the U.S. She must be referred to a family before she turns 14 this November; the latest a family can submit a dossier for her adoption is the end of September. The CCCWA will likely expedite her case.

Thailand News: Estimated Timelines

Our Thailand program continues to remain open to families who are open and flexible to a some-what unknown adoption process. It is currently very difficult to obtain predictions from Thailand regarding timelines of adoptions. For healthy children, the current estimate for a referral is three years. AAI is allowed to process only a small number of healthy adoptions this year and we are close to reaching our quota.

For special needs adoptions, the wait time is still a bit of an unknown. Changes in the staffing at the Child Adoption Center have left a very small number of social workers available to process all intercountry adoptions. A recent email from our main social worker in Thailand states there are only four social workers currently and they are working long hours, often not leaving work until 9:00 p.m. She states that they are all very busy, very tired, and they appreciate the patience and understanding of adoptive families during this time. We remain optimistic that additional staff will be added in the near future to help relieve the work load of the current social workers.

Meet Mr. Li
Mr. Li with two kids adopted through AAI.
The next few months will be an exciting time for our agency, as we have many families traveling to bring their children home. While in China, families are assisted by Mr. Li, our in-country coordinator.

Mr. Li is in his forties and is an attorney with his own practice. He has worked for our agency since 1991 assisting families during the adoption process. He is responsible for translation of documents, communication with the CCCWA and orphanages, and traveling with families to finalize their adoptions in China. He recently had his second child, making him a father of two beautiful girls. Mr. Li is an invaluable resource to AAI and our adoptive families; without him, our work wouldn't be possible!

Mr. Li shares AAI's passion and commitment for finding families for children in need. The process for special needs adoption is expedited with an estimated timeline of 12-18 months. Children range from 1-14 years of age with varying special needs. If you or someone you know might be interested in this wonderful program, please contact me. I am more than happy to discuss the process, the program, and the waiting children. The waiting child list in China changes monthly and there is no shortage of children in need of loving families!
