A Change In Court Procedure
Dear Friends,
Things are busy and the Ethiopia program is hopping here in Washington! We have a number of families in process and we are welcoming new families to our waiting list. Today I wanted to update you on a recent change in the court process for adoptions. Previously when a family's case was opened in court, there would be a biological family court date first and the adoptive family court date would be scheduled shortly afterwards. The case would then receive an approval letter from MOWA as the case was readied for the embassy. However, now the court is waiting to receive the MOWA letter before scheduling the adoptive family court date. What this means is that there may be a longer wait for adoptive family court dates, but it may also mean there is a shorter wait after court for the embassy process, so the total adoption process time may not be affected overall. Just so you know!

Adoption Agencies Closing
Every year several adoption agencies find it necessary to close their doors. This happens for many reasons, including not getting their licenses renewed, a general down turn in international adoptions, and more recently the Russian government no longer allowing Americans to adopt. Just this week, we heard that Christian World Adoptions had closed their doors, as well as Dove Adoptions International. We are sad to see this happen and realize how difficult this must be for the employees and families associated with these agencies. We offer them our thoughts, hopes, and prayers as they go through this difficult time.
