I have received new photos of two past truss projects, one finished and one in the process. When clients ask me about staining our timber frames and trusses I usually recommend not to do it, suggesting the best color and look will come with age. The first photo, a home in Ojai, may prove me wrong when someone really good does the finish. The next two photos, a project in Templeton, are a clear natural finish, both projects were hewn timbers and the contractors did a great job finishing the trusses in different ways.
We have the foundations started for the two new SIP homes in Los Angeles and the SIPs are cut and waiting in our shop in Paso Robles. We expect to be on site in about 4 weeks. We are also about to start on a SIP home in Malibu.
In the background is the natural Douglas fir before staining, in the front is a truss primed for the finish, in the middle are the finished trusses.
These hewn hammer beam trusses were sanded and a clear finish was applied.
