Obesity, Energy Balance and Cancer Survivorship Webinar
Date and Time:

May 10th, 2013; 2:00pm-3:30pm

Description: This webinar will address how and why obesity has negative impacts on cancer prognosis and survivorship. The attendee will learn why patients may gain weight during treatment, and how medical and lifestyle approaches can be used to better manage the positive energy balance that contributes to weight gain during and after cancer treatment. The speakers will discuss the role of the registered dietitian in facilitating neutral energy balance and prevention of unhealthy weight gain in the oncology patient and cancer survivor populations.

7th Biennial Childhood Obesity Conference
Date and Location:

June 18th-20th, 2013; Long Beach Convention Center, California.  

Description: The California Department of Public Health, California Department of Education, the University of California, Berkeley, Dr. Robert C. and Veronica Atkins Center for Weight and Health, The California Endowment, and Kaiser Permanente are pleased to announce the 2013 Childhood Obesity Conference scheduled for June 18-20, at the Long Beach Convention Center, California. Now in its 7th year, the biennial Childhood Obesity Conference is the nation's largest, most influential collaboration of professionals dedicated to combating pediatric obesity. Nearly 2,000 attendees from across the country are expected to attend in 2013. The Conference will showcase the latest research, evidence-based best practices, and policy/environmental change strategies.

Application of the NCP and IDNT: Enhancing the Value of Your Work in Public Health/Community Nutrition Webinar

Date and Time:
June 25th, 2013; 2:00pm-3:30pm
Description: Two dietitians with extensive and varied experiences in public health/community nutrition will highlight the ways that the Nutrition Care Process (NCP) and its complementary standardized language, the International Dietetics and Nutrition Terminology (IDNT), can be fully implemented in a variety of settings and circumstances in public health/community nutrition practice. Participants will learn how the NCP and IDNT will play a critical role in enhancing the value of nutrition services, in demonstrating to key stakeholders how those services are valuable, and in preparing for shifts in health care delivery as clinical and public health arenas become more integrated.

Society for Nutrition Education and Behavior 2013 Annual Conference

Time-Sensitive Obesity Policy and Program Evaluation (R01)

 

Award Note:
The number of awards is contingent upon NIH appropriations, and the submission of a sufficient number of meritorious applications.

Deadline: May 13, 2013

Summary: This FOA issued by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK); the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI); the National Cancer Institute (NCI); the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM), Office of Dietary Supplements (ODS), and the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), encourages research grant applications from institutions/organizations that propose to conduct exploratory/developmental clinical studies that will accelerate the development of effective interventions for prevention or treatment of overweight or obesity in adults and/or children. Exploratory epidemiological research with a goal of informing translational/clinical research will also be supported within this program.

Award Note: Because the nature and scope of the proposed research will vary from application to application, it is anticipated that the size and duration of each award will also vary. Although the financial plans of the IC(s) provide support for this program, awards pursuant to this funding opportunity are contingent upon the availability of funds.

Summary: This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA), issued by the National Cancer Institute (NCI), the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research (OBSSR), NIH, and the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, CDC, encourages Research Project Grant (R01) applications that propose to: (1) conduct evaluation research on obesity-related "natural experiments" (defined here as community and other population-level public policy interventions that may affect diet and physical activity behavior), and/or (2) develop and/or validate relevant community-level measures (instruments and methodologies to assess the food and physical activity environments at the community level). The overarching goal of this FOA is to inform public policy and research relevant to (1) diet and physical activity behavior, and (2) weight and health outcomes of Americans.

Summary: This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) issued by the National Institute of Nursing Research encourages R01 applications to improve health outcomes for women, infants and children, by stimulating interdisciplinary research focused on maternal nutrition and pre-pregnancy obesity. Maternal health significantly impacts not only the mother but also the intrauterine environment, and subsequently fetal development and the health of the newborn.

Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation: Requests for Proposals for $35,000 Research Grant
The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics announces a grant for lifestyle interventions for childhood overweight and obesity prevention.
The Foundation encourages submission of applications that support formative work or a pilot study that can be used in a much larger grant that would explore lifestyle interventions which can reduce the risk of development of childhood overweight and obesity by focusing on nutrition and physical activity.
