The City of Taylor Mill is looking forward to a fantastic 2015, but before we do so let us focus on a couple of significant things that occurred in our community during 2014.
First and foremost, we saw the opening of the Trifecta Building, which is home to Skyline Chili, Graeter's Ice Cream & Bakery Shop, and LaRosa's Pizzeria. These three iconic brands were the first new businesses to locate within our newly envisioned commercial business district known as the Districts of Taylor Mill. The year also saw completion of some major portions of the KY 16 Reconstruction Project, and the opening of the bridge that connects Phase 1 to Phase 2 of the roadway also known as Pride Parkway. These changes all lead to the betterment of our community long term.
The year 2015 brings the completion of Pride Parkway in its entirety and growth in our residential community base as Gerdes and Flesch Construction embark on the build out of an additional 60 lots within the High Ridge Subdivision. We also have more new home sites available for purchase on Morning Glory Drive.
For the purpose of enhancing our Districts of Taylor Mill Business District we will be installing pedestrian lighting along a portion of Pride Parkway, moving forward with plans to develop a new gateway to our Community that helps more clearly create a sense of place and arrival, and installing some streetscape amenities such as benches, trash cans, and bicycle racks. This area will continue to thrive and ultimately be a unique destination to live, work, and play.
Linking Pride Park to our business district, schools, and neighborhoods continues to be a focus for us in 2015. This effort becomes a closer reality with the receipt of $350,000 in grant funding. Pride Park is also experiencing some changes with the raising of a portion of land within the park approximately 40 feet to allow for the future construction of a new amphitheater and reflecting pond. The earth work on this project is being completed in part via a partnership with Lawrence Construction who had surplus dirt from the reconstruction of Pride Parkway that they were able to compact and bench into a more useable site that will be handicap accessible when complete. We currently are seeking corporate sponsorships or funding via private donations and/or grants for the future construction of the aforementioned amphitheater.
Repaving and reconstruction existing roadways in our community also remains to be at the top of our priority list. Each year we utilize Municipal Road Aid Funds received from the Commonwealth of Kentucky, as well as, City allocated Capital Improvement Funds to address as many infrastructure issues as financially feasible. Anyone who has roadway issues or pothole patch requests they would like to report can contact us directly at info@taylormillky.gov. Your input in this matter is much appreciated!
Additionally, we have some great community recreation events planned for the remainder of the year. We hope that each of you will join us to celebrate the coming together of family, friends, and neighbors within the Taylor Mill Community.
2015 is sure to continue to be an exciting year for the City of Taylor Mill. All residents and business owners are encouraged to visit our website for more information at www.taylormillky.gov, and watch our monthly Commission Meetings on TBNK TW Cable Channel 16 on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 7 pm. Better yet, attend in person. We'd love for you to come out and learn more about your local government. Sincerely, Daniel L. Bell, Mayor City of Taylor Mill
