Fire/EMS Chief

The City of Taylor Mill, KY, population 7,000, is seeking a dynamic, highly motivated and experienced individual for the position of full-time Fire/EMS Chief. The position reports directly to the City Administrator and is responsible for the administration, supervision, command, and technical oversight of the City Fire/EMS Department, which consists of: 2 Stations; a combination staff consisting of approximately 17 full and part time FF/Paramedics and 43 rostered volunteers; estimated 1,000 service calls per year; and an annual budget of $1.3 million.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, as well as strong organizational, leadership skills and excellent customer service abilities necessary to protect life, property and lead a progressive department. He or she must also possess excellent writing skills and be proficient in various applicable technology, and be able to bend, lift and move items in excess of 75 pounds. This individual will also be responsible for duties including, but not limited to scheduling; departmental training; record retention; media relations; preparing and administering a departmental budget; employee evaluations; coordination of fire inspection, prevention and suppression activities; oversight of all ALS activities; development, interpretation, and enforcement of Departmental SOG's; attending all meetings of the City Commission; report preparation; grant writing; fleet management; and community education and outreach programs.

The successful candidate should possess a high school diploma or equivalency, Associates or Bachelor's Degree from an Accredited University in Fire Science/Education or another closely related field plus Paramedic Certification preferred, supplemented by proven progressively responsible Fire Rescue/EMS work and supervisory experience. Must hold a valid driver's license and possess all applicable Kentucky Certifications, including NIMS-ICS, within a reasonable period of time.

Salary Range DOQ: $60,568.09 to $73,351.98 plus excellent benefit package.
