 KY 16 Reconstruction Update

Phase 1 - Work on Phase 1 of the Kentucky 16 Reconstruction Project -  identified generally from I-275 to Taylor Creek -  is almost complete with the exception of a few items that need to be repaired or reconstructed to meet state standards.

As part of the Phase 1 Project the City of Taylor Mill will be installing decorative pedestrian street lights and decorative street signage along Pride Parkway in the coming months.

Phase 2 - Effective on Monday, October 14, 2013 Robertson Road will be closed to thru traffic where the new Pride Parkway will intersect it.  Specially this means local residents from house #828 to house #864 will have access from the North intersection of Old Taylor Mill Road and Robertson Road ONLY.  All others will have access via Lakewood Drive ONLY.

As construction continues in the area all residents are encouraged to exercise extreme caution.  Please observe posted speed limits and detour signage at all times.

Greetings!

The City of Taylor Mill is very excited to have recently broken ground on a $10 million development project within the Districts of Taylor Mill that will be owned and operated by the Holland Rosen Restaurant Group.  This  new, mixed-use, retail and office facility coming to the heart of Taylor Mill's Business District is scheduled to open later summer of 2014 and will be anchored by a 6,000 sf LaRosa's Pizzeria and a 3,500 sf Skyline Chili in addition to retail space of the first and fourth floors.  Office space will be available on the second floor with the third floor housing the Holland Rosen Group's Corporate Offices.

The Districts of Taylor Mill will be defined by a welcoming downtown setting, traditional architecture, plentiful walkways, attractive landscaping, and easy vehicular access.

Over the next few years we see lots of potential for additional new construction as the City's transformation  continues as the result of detailed planning efforts and the reconstruction of KY16.  As new information becomes available we will be anxious to share it.  In the meantime, we continue to value all of our new and previously established relationships with business owners in our community and encourage all of our residents to shop, dine, and experience life LOCALLY!

Thank you,

Daniel L. Bell, Mayor

City of Taylor Mill

Taylor Mill Road Sidewalk Grant Awarded

We are pleased to announce that the City of Taylor Mill, via the Ohio Kentucky Indiana (OKI) Regional Council of Governments, has been awarded a $240,000.00 grant from the Kentucky Transportation Authority for the construction of sidewalks along existing Taylor Mill Road, aka KY 16.

The purpose of these sidewalks are to link residents along this corridor with the opportunity to easily walk or bike to local businesses, schools, and Pride Park.

Sidewalk design efforts are in full swing in anticipation of funds allocated for the 2015 construction season.

TANK Bus Route - Proposed Changes

The Transit Authority of Northern Kentucky (TANK) is now accepting public comments on potential Bus Route deletions and additions.

Proposed Changes that will impact Taylor Mill are as follows:

1.  Taylor Mill Route #9 currently operates all the way from the River to the Cherokee Shopping Center throughout the weekday.  Due to lower than normal ridership TANK is proposed this route provide service to the Districts of Taylor Mill and then terminate at the Covington Transit Center with operation along Eastern Avenue and Scott Street.

2.  TANK is also proposed the addition of a new crosstown route with service from the Districts of Taylor Mill to Crestview Hills Town Center with stops at the Ft. Wright Transit Hub and St. Elizabeth Hospital in Edgewood.  This proposed route would operate hourly throughout the weekday.

Taylor Mill residents can learn more about proposed changes to the public transportation system  and provide feedback at www.tankbus.org-center/network-study.

Kenton County Transportation Plan

All Taylor Mill residents are invited to provide input into the Kenton County Transportation Plan currently being studied by the Ohio Kentucky Indiana (OKI) Regional Council of Governments.

Residents have until October 31, 2013 to complete an online survey and express your thoughts and opinions about Transportation Issues impacting our region.

Currently, Commissioner Ed Kuehne is serving as Taylor Mill's representative on the OKI Board with Mayor Daniel Bell serving as Kenton County's representative.  Both of these individuals value your input and look forward to hearing from you.  Click on the link below to start this important survey.

Taylor Mill Police Officer Michael Lyon was bestowed the Governor's Award on August 5, 2013 for Occupant Protection Enforcement and Life Saving Achievement in reducing highway fatalities and injuries.  Congratulations to Officer Lyon on a job well done!

Congratulations also to Taylor Mill Police Officer Heather Mitchell for earning her career development certificate, recognizing her as an "Advanced Law Enforcement Officer".  The Kentucky Law Enforcement Council's Career Development Program is a voluntary program that awards specialty certificates based on an individual's education, training and experience as a peace officer.  There are a total of 17 professional certificates - 12 for Law Enforcement that emphasize the career paths of patrol , investigations, traffic and management.  The variety of certificates allows a person to individualize his or her course of study, just as someone pursuing a specific college degree.  Congratulations of this achievement Officer Mitchell!

In other police related news, during this year's budget cycle the Taylor Mill City Commission authorized the purchase of two (2) new vehicles for use by the police department.  One of the vehicles will be a dodge charger and the other a Ford Explorer Interceptor.  The new Ford is an intermediate all wheel drive SUV, powered by a V6 engine.  This smaller SUV will eventually replace our V8 engine Expedition providing the same traction we need but with better fuel efficiency.
