Paul and Herta Amir Make $10 Million Gift to the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Haifa
Paul and Herta Amir, generous
benefactors to the University of Haifa
for decades, made record donation to support the Faculty of Social Sciences.
In a festive ceremony in early January the University of Haifa renamed the Faculty of Social Sciences after long-time University friends and Paul and Herta Amir.
Thanks to their $10 million gift, the single largest gift ever given to the University of Haifa by a donor for one project, four additional floors will be added to the existing buildings of the Faculty of Social Sciences and the department will be expanded.
"This gift from Paul and Herta Amir," said Amos Shapira, President of the University of Haifa, "is further testimony to their steadfast connection with the State of Israel in general and the University of Haifa in particular, and to the value they place on education in Israel. Pharmas Invest $8MM in University of Haifa's Spinoff on Alzheimer's Research
MEET SOME OF THE HUNDREDS OF INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF HAIFA
Johnson &Johnson, FutuRx Ltd, OrbiMed Israel and Takeda Ventures, will invest over $8 million in MemoFit Ltd. The company was established just last year by the Carmel Ltd. the Technical-Transfer Organization of the University of Haifa based on the research by Prof Kobi Rosenblum into memory improvement in Alzheimer's disease.
Prof Rosenblum's team has recently succeeded in improving the learning processes and memory in mice with Alzheimer's by repressing the activity of a protein dominant in the development of the disease.
Hundreds of students from around the world are currently enrolled in one of 17 English-language Master's Programs at the International School, and language and other courses, at the University of Haifa.
Miami Philanthropic Community Leaders Laura and John Bussel Host Conversational Dinner

American Society Board Member John Bussel and his wife Laura hosted a private ASUH Conversational Dinner last Sunday at their home in Bay Harbor Islands, FL, a development conceived and developed by his grandfather, philanthropist, lawyer and banker Shepard Broad. Participants included business leaders from Miami, Chicago and New York. University of Haifa President Amos Shapira was guest of honor.
Renowned criminal defense attorney Alan Dershowitz moderated the animated discussion, which covered a range of topic from the importance of the Mediterranean Sea for the future economic prosperity and security of Israel to diversity and coexistence and how the University of Haifa is playing a vital role in reshaping Israeli society.
Among the distinguished guests was Ann Bussel, Shepard Broad's daughter, who spoke proudly of her late father's staunch support of the founding of the state of Israel and of his friendship with David Ben-Gurion. The Shepard Broad Foundation has given generous support to teacher training and parenting programs at the University of Haifa for many years.
