Waterfront Update Generates Investment Buzz

Chris Phillips (pictured) updated the development community on the progress of City-led efforts to renew Hamilton's West Harbour, particularly the Pier 8 lands slated to accommodate a mix of residential, commercial and recreational uses. Phillips - the City's lead on waterfront development - spoke yesterday at Recreating Spaces: Brown is the New Green, a business forum sponsored by the Hamilton-Halton Home Builders' Association in partnership with MTE Consultants Inc. and RBC Royal Bank.
He outlined the City's strategy to work in partnership with developers and investors to realize the area's full potential as a signature community and significant tax generator for the municipality. Plans are to have Pier 8 shovel ready by 2018 at the latest. The current focus is on servicing the lands and carrying out a detailed urban design study. "This major urban renewal project is part of a broader intensification movement in Hamilton that is helping to re-energize our historic lower city," said Hamilton Chamber CEO Keanin Loomis. A special thanks to the Chamber's Renew Hamilton Project for producing an audio recording of Phillips' presentation (access below). Image courtesy of CBC Hamilton.
