Hamilton Economic Summit Sound Bites

McMaster President at Economic Summit

Citizenship, community engagement and youth were central themes in Dr. Patrick Deane's talk at this year's 7th Hamilton Economic Summit. The president of McMaster Universityspoke about the institution's evolving role in the prosperity of Hamilton over time.  He highlighted McMaster's well known contributions in fields such as science, technology and health while pointing to a growing emphasis on social development and quality of life.

New investments in formalized and structured community-based programs are enabling McMaster students and faculty to increase their active involvement in city-building and benefit from new and dynamic forms of teaching and learning.

President Deane closed on a note of great optimism regarding the future of Hamilton as a truly ambitious city. "The great hope for this community and all others is its young people."

HES Investment Panel

Here's the full audio recording of the Ambitious City Investment Panel that concluded the 7th Hamilton Economic Summit held on June 5 in downtown Hamilton.

The panel, which was moderated by AM900 CHML radio host Bill Kelly, featured eleven local business leaders and entrepreneurs who are helping to drive jobs, prosperity and quality of life in our community.

An enthusiastic Kelly frames the session by calling the panel "the new face of the Hamilton economy" and exhorts citizens to embrace change.

Finalists for LiON'S LAIR 2014 Announced

10 companies have been selected as finalists for LiON'S LAIR, a competition that offers finalists the chance to pitch their idea to a panel of industry judges-the "Lions"-and solicit over $100,000 in cash and in-kind resources.

Hopeful participants submitted their business plans in April and each plan was evaluated based on the company's product and commercial viability, ability to execute, and other factors by a panel of independent judges. The judge's scores were tallied and this year's top ten finalists are:
