Urban Renewal Key to Hamilton's Future

Mayor Bob Bratina dedicated a significant portion of his recent State of the City address to themes central to the Chamber's Renew Hamilton Project - urban intensification, utilization of existing infrastructure, healthy neighbourhoods and adaptive reuse. He highlighted leading examples of downtown renewal projects and cited the effectiveness of municipal incentives in helping to generate the wave of residential development now occurring in the core. Weighing costs and benefits, he spoke about the need for Hamilton to live within its means as it considers future investments in key city building projects such as complete streets, light rail transit and the public realm. He called on Hamilton's leadership to differentiate between "constructive criticism and pure negativity." He said: "There's nothing wrong with our city."
