Kent Austin Announced as Guest Speaker for Hamilton Community Awards

The Hamilton Chamber of Commerce has announced that the nomination period is now open for the Hamilton Community Awards, comprising the 76th annual Royal Bank Distinguished Citizen of the Year and the 16th annual Hamilton Spectator Youth Volunteer of the Year. Nominations will be accepted until December 31, 2013, with winners being announced at the Hamilton Community Awards dinner on January 21, 2014 at Liuna Station.

The Hamilton Chamber of Commerce is proud to welcome Kent Austin, Ti-Cat Head Coach and General Manager, as our guest speaker for the evening.

Nominations for the RBC Distinguished Citizen of the Year are open to those who have had a great impact on Hamilton. Nominations for The Hamilton Spectator Youth Volunteer of the Year are open to individuals ages 19 and under (as of December 31, 2013) and who have taken on volunteer leadership roles.

The nomination form, available at hamiltonchamber.ca, is asking potential nominators:

1) Do you know someone who is the ultimate Hamiltonian?

2) Do you know someone who works tirelessly for their community?

3) What Hamiltonian, in your estimation, made the most impact on this community in 2013?

A panel of distinguished citizens will use independent research, along with the support letters provided by the nominators, to reach its decision.

The Hamilton Chamber would like to thank event sponsors Royal Bank of Canada, The Hamilton Spectator and the Hamilton Community Foundation for their continued generous support.

Detailed information about the nomination process is available on the Hamilton Chamber website at hamiltonchamber.ca or by contacting Marie Nash at m.nash@hamiltonchamber.ca or 905-522-1151 ext. 227.

Renewal Studies Seek Public Input

Three interrelated urban renewal studies that explore land use options for a large swath of downtown Hamilton are now underway.  Study teams operating under the City of Hamilton are seeking public input on three areas of significance: James Street North Mobility Hub, Barton-Tiffany and Barton from James to Kenilworth Avenue.  Combined, this historic geography is rich in assets - a thriving arts district, commercial corridors and access to the waterfront, to name a few - and embedded with complex challenges, including pockets of poverty and degraded infrastructure. In short, it's a part of our city ripe for rehabilitation.  What's the recipe for regeneration that honours the past while unlocking future economic opportunities? CLICK HERE  to learn more and contribute.  The Chamber's Renew Hamilton project thanks study organizers for the invitation to support this important design initiative.  The accompanying photo was snapped during last week's public consultation event at LIUNA Station.

Jennifer Keesmaat Address Podcast

On December 3, 2013 at LIUNA Station, about 300 people attended the Hamilton Chamber's inaugural event, Ambitious City, with guest Jennifer Keesmaat.

Jennifer is the Chief City Planner for the City of Toronto.  Her fifty minute talk focusses on the principles of modern city building and concludes with a number of "hard truths" that Hamilton will need to confront in order to achieve greatness as a top midsize city.

Member Profile - Pizza Nova

In 1963 his father and uncles opened one small, corner pizzeria called Pizza Nova in Toronto. Today Domenic Primucci is the President of Pizza Nova with over 130 locations across Southern Ontario. Under his leadership, Pizza Nova has recently been awarded the Grand Prize Award of Excellence in Franchising.

Pizza Nova opened its first store in the Greater Hamilton Area in 1999 at 101 Osler Dr. in Dundas. Following the success of that location, three other locations were established. Two locations on the mountain, service the Upper James (between Stone Church and Rymal Rd) and Upper Paradise (Upper Paradise and Rymal Rd) areas. The forth location is situated on Queenston Rd (Queenston Rd and Nash Rd). With plans for further expansion both downtown and in the surrounding areas, Pizza Nova is thrilled to be part of the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce and continue its proud tradition of serving great tasting, authentic Italian food.
