Ontario Chamber of Commerce Minimum Wage Consultation Calls
The Government of Ontario has appointed an Advisory Panel to provide advice on how the province should determine future changes to the minimum wage.
The Ontario Chamber of Commerce is convening businesses from across the province to participate in a conference call consultation where they will examine options for determining the minimum wage. In October, the will be submitting our recommendations to the government's Advisory Panel.
Please see the attached slide deck and backgrounder for information that will inform the discussion. The OCC ask that you please review them in advance of participating on a call.
Note: the consultations will NOT focus on whether or not the government should increase the minimum wage or how much that increase should be.Rather, it will focus on the process the Ontario government should use to determine future changes to the minimum wage.

Pathways to Employment: Strengthening the Immigrant Connection

Planning Hamilton (WPH) initiatives in aiding newcomers to discover pathways to employment.
WPH is pleased to present the results of our research project, Hiring Immigrants in Hamilton:
A Study of Employer Readiness. The first survey of its kind in Hamilton, the 2013 survey of more than 300 local employers yielded interesting and surprising results. Find out more about the employers' responses and experiences during this presentation.
Learn about the Hamilton Immigrant Mentorship Partnership (HIMP). Funded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation this program will offer mentorship opportunities to internationally trained professionals. Find out how to become involved with HIMP as a mentor or a mentee.

International Vill age BIA is proud to announce that on this Labour Day Weekend they are holding our first ever 'Oktoberfest - A Taste of International Village presented by Denninger's'. The festival will take place on Friday, August 30th 6-11pm and Saturday, August 31st noon-11pm. Oktoberfest will be full of amazing food including Denninger's delicious German specialties and live music from local bands including Ginger St. James, Tomi Swick and Lo-Fi to name just a few. On the Saturday they are hosting a sidewalk sale featuring our awesome shops, restaurants and services noon-7pm on King St. E. between Wellington and Mary St. On the Friday night, they are very excited to welcome Steven Page headlining and on the Saturday night will welcome headliner Poor Angus, a local Hamilton band that has recently made their name known internationally.
