Preparing for Performance & Productivity
How you feel and function depends on your health. The same goes for your employees. That is why the Human Resources Committee from the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce recently held an interactive session focused on preparing for performance and productivity through health and wellness. Here are the highlights from the session: 1. Protect employee health and increase productivity through a wellness program. Rebecca Bailey, Co-op Wellness Consultant at Hamilton Police Service shared key steps for getting started, including starting a wellness committee or picking a Wellness Champion and doing an employee survey. Employers looking for assistance with implementing a wellness program can hire a co-op student from the Health, Wellness and Fitness Program at Mohawk College. Rebecca can be reached at RBailey@hamiltonpolice.on.ca or 905-818-7501 for more information. 2. Protect your health and prepare your brain and body for optimum performance and productivity in all aspects of your life. Dr. Jerry Morris, Paramount Family Chiropractic unveiled the S.H.I.E.L.D. program: - Sleep- try to get 7 or 8 hours of sleep
- Hydration- start drinking one half of your body weight in ounces of water daily
- Involvement- develop healthy relationships and get involved in your community
- Exercise- incorporate exercises that focus on power, endurance, and posture
- Living Food- eat more whole foods
- Deliver- time management and getting things done
The program is free and can be implemented individually or in a workplace context, and includes a poster and score cards. Visit www.pchiro100.com for more information. 3. Access free resources for your company. Lisa Beaudoin, from the City of Hamilton, Public Health Services Workplace Health Program, talked about online resources at www.hamiltonhealthyworkplaces.ca that can help employers and employees "Break for a Taste", "Quit the Sit", "Quit the Smoke Break" and "Take the Break". 4. There are simple exercises you can fit into a busy schedule. Anne Marie Collingwood, YWCA shared a time efficient workout that can be used at home or at work. For more information, call 905-522-9922. If you are interested in learning more about the Human Resources Committee, our next meeting will be Wednesday September 11, 2013 at 7:45 a.m. at the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce.
