OBAAs Good for Business and Community
Two past recipients of the chamber's Outstanding Business Achievement Awards (OBAAs) talked about the tangible value of public recognition at the last Coffee with the CEO event hosted by the Sheraton Hamilton Hotel and moderated by David Adames. Jane Allison, manager of Community Partnerships, The Hamilton Spectator (winner of a 2010 OBAA in the Large Business category) said the award helped validate The Spec's importance to our community while boosting the spirits of staff and the paper's ownership group. Steve Kulakowsky, a partner with Core Urban Inc. (winner of a 2011 OBAA in the Young Entrepreneur category) believes that the OBAAs have a positive impact on the city as a whole. "It reminds us of all the good news happening in Hamilton." Both recipients commented on the breadth of organizations - private, public and not for profit - included in the OBAA structure. "The program is multifaceted and representative of our diverse business community," said Allison. "It engages everyone."
