Hamilton Chamber offers our condolences to the family of the Honourable Lincoln Alexander

On behalf of the Board, membership and staff of the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce, we express our condolences to the family of the Honourable Lincoln Alexander.  His legacy of "firsts" will long be remembered across the country and cherished by Hamiltonians.  He cared about his country, province and especially his hometown.  Hamilton was greatly enriched by his contributions over many decades for which we are truly grateful.  He will be deeply missed.

The Hamilton Chamber will be hosting a number of activities next week during Small Business Week including:

 

On Monday, the Hamilton Chamber hosted City Manager Chris Murray for a breakfast event, attended by 150 Chamber members and guests.

Culture the Focus of Salon Dinner on Oct. 30

 
 Fine food, fellowship and learning. Renew Hamilton - an
 initiative of the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce - presents Conversations with Christopher Hume

 and Guests, a salon dinner series to help advance

 inspired urban environments in Hamilton.

 

Our Oct 30 event will explore the theme Rethinking Cultural Destinations through the lens of community building, jobs and prosperity.


The evening will include a local tribute to Bruce Kuwabara, an internationally acclaimed architect who was born and raised in Hamilton. Mr Kuwabara was invested as an Officer of the Order of Canada earlier this year. Members of the Hamilton/Burlington Society of Architects will lead our local tribute.


Mr. Kuwabara will sit on an expert panel along with Tim Jones, Artscape; Udo Schliemann, Entro | G+A; and Alice Sabourin, City of Hamilton. Chamber Chair Louise Dompierre will be the Master of Ceremonies.


This leadership event will help support the implementation of our city's new cultural policy and plan.


$95 per person, $175 per couple.
Limited seating.  Cocktails at 6:30 pm, opening remarks at 7:00 pm.

KPMG and Hamilton Chamber co-present Health Sciences Forum - November 1

The Hamilton Chamber of Commerce and KPMG LLP (KPMG) are pleased to present a forum exploring the role of health sciences in Hamilton's economy on Thursday, November 1, 2012 in the King George Ball Room of Liuna Station, 360 James Street North, Hamilton, from 7:30 am to 11 am. 
 
Forum attendees will:
  • Build greater awareness of Hamilton's robust health sciences sector, its role in local and larger economies, and the business opportunities it brings to Hamilton
  • Explore deliverables that resulted from the last Hamilton Economic Summit, including confirmation of next steps
  • Position Hamilton as a leader in  health sciences and as an incubator for new business opportunities
  • Connect with Lions Lair, Hamilton's marquee entrepreneurship program.
Event activities include:
  • Video overview of health sciences in Hamilton
  • Opening remarks from David Adames, President and CEO at Hamilton Chamber of Commerce and Mario Paron, Managing Partner of KPMG's Hamilton office
    • Panel discussion moderated by KPMG's Mark Walton, Partner, Ontario Health Care Practice Lead

Hamilton HIVE hosted HIVE X:
 
On Saturday, October 20 at the Sheraton Hotel Hamilton, Hamilton Hive hosted its successful second annual HIVE X conference (presented by FirstOntario Credit Union), Hamilton's premier Young Professional Conference.  The event featured interactive sessions and a tremendous keynote delivered by Ty Shattuck, President and CEO of PV Labs.  Listen here to the audio recording of his keynote, entitled "Leading through Innovation and Entrepreneurship".
