Opportunity to Partner in Guavaween 2013
The Ybor City Chamber will be hosting the Guavaween Costume Contest again this year at Centro Ybor. The Ybor Chamber will be carrying-on our Guavaween tradition and invites members to join in as "co-promoters."
All the Chamber's bars, restaurants and hospitality venues are encouraged to participate as Promotional Partners for 2013. Thus far, the Chamber has received commitments from J.J.'s Café and Crowbar who will act as Promotional Partners with three more in the works. A modest fee of $250 will allow member businesses to:
- Provide Guavaween specials on the night of the event and use of the name in that regard;
- Be identified on Guavaween promotional materials;
- Utilize Guavaween posters in their establishments; and
- Sign-up official Guavaween Costume Contest participants who will be announced as selected by that establishment.
The 2013 Edition of Guavaween is sponsored by Centro Ybor.

President's Message
Hola,
Fall is in the air... the humidity is dropping and there is just a hint of coolness. Yes, it's time for our 4th Annual Ybor OktoberFest Pub Crawl. And, what better way to celebrate this time of year! I am pleased to say the Ybor City Chamber is poised to host our best O'Fest ever!
Speaking of the best ever - I am proud to announce that Ybor City received five "Best of the Bay" awards from Creative Loafing. Three "Readers Picks" - Best Party District, Best Place to Bring an Out-of-Towner and Best Place to People-Watch, along with two "Critic's Picks" - Best Move Toward Improvement: Guavaween and Best Drag Show Circuit (which I would like to share with our GaYbor colleagues).
While we are much cooler than your father's Chamber of Commerce, we also honor tradition. Our 48th Annual Gala was awesome. We celebrated three generations of engagement in Ybor City by the J.C. Newman Cigar Family. The Gala was both breathtaking in its elegance and deeply moving in its ceremony. The Newman's own and operate the last major cigar manufacturing company in Ybor City and one of only four remaining in the United States.
Our next event of Ybor's Holiday Season will be our 28th Annual Guavaween Costume Contest to be held on Saturday, October, 26th in the south courtyard of Centro Ybor. Local rock band Scilter takes to the stage at 7:00 PM with Mama Guava coming on at 9:00 PM to judge the Costume Contest.
Our theme this year is "Monster Mash" featuring the classic movie monsters from the golden age of horror films. I expect a gruesome array of mummies, werewolves, Frankensteins, vampires, and of course zombies will be stalking their way through the streets of Ybor City on Guavaween night. Grotesque and/or camp movie-aliens are also encouraged to land, infiltrate and replace the native population.
