The Ybor City Chamber Announces Guavaween Costume Contest
Mama Guava to Host Annual Contest at Centro Ybor
 (Tampa, Florida) The Ybor City Chamber of Commerce announced today that the Chamber will continue its long-standing Guavaween Costume Contest on Saturday, October 26 th. Guavaween, now in its 28 th year, is the traditional Ybor-based Halloween special event. The Centro Ybor stage in the south courtyard will have "live music" from 7:00 to 8:45 PM. The original Mama Guava, Kathi Grau, will host the Costume Contest following at 9:00 PM.
Contestants for the Guavaween Costume Contest will be selected at venues that are "Promotional Partners" in the period before the contest beings. Again this year, there will be a cash prize of $1,000 for the best costume. Gift certificates will be provided for runners-up and best group. This year's theme is "Monster Mash," which celebrates classic monsters from the golden age of horror films.
Centro Ybor is sponsoring the Costume Contest Stage. Guava Sponsors include GTE Financial, C.H. Robinson, Hilton Garden Inn and Tre Amici @ the Bunker. Promotional Partners, such as J.J.'s Café and Crowbar, will have Guavaween specials throughout the evening.
"Come down to Ybor City to celebrate "all hallows day"," says Marc Hamburg, Chairman of the Guavaween 2013 Committee. "There is something for everyone, from mummies and vampires to werewolves and zombies."
Daytime activities in the Historic District include the "Little Monsters Pumpkin Patch" at Centro Ybor and the "Big Monsters Bed Race" down Seventh Avenue.
