Opportunity to Partner in Guavaween 2013

The Ybor City Chamber will be hosting the Guavaween Costume Contest again this year at Centro Ybor.  The Ybor Chamber will be carrying-on our Guavaween tradition and invites members to join in as "co-promoters."

All the Chamber's bars, restaurants and hospitality venues are encouraged to participate as Promotional Partners for 2013.  Thus far, the Chamber has received commitments from J.J.'s Café and Crowbar who will act as Promotional Partners.  A modest fee of $250 will allow member businesses to:

- Provide Guavaween specials on the night of the event and use of the name in that regard;

- Be identified on Guavaween promotional materials;

- Utilize Guavaween posters in their establishments; and

- Sign-up official Guavaween Costume Contest participants who will be announced as selected by that establishment.

The 2013 Edition of Guavaween is sponsored by Centro Ybor.

- Guava Sponsors, to date, include:

- GTE Financial

- C.H. Robinson

- The Hilton Garden Inn & Suites

- Tre Amici at the Bunker

To sign-up to be a Guavaween Promotional Partner contact Michele Keating at mkeating@ybor.org or 248-3712 x25.

  Guavaween is a protected Sales Mark (SM) of the Ybor City Chamber of Commerce.  Its use is restricted to the Ybor City Chamber of Commerce and its licensees.

Chair's Message

Hello Ybor,

We had a great luncheon last week! They seem to keep getting better and better. AAA made a great presentation highlighting all the different places and experiences they offer up in their entire travel line of products, and it was a tease to our upcoming Tropical Cruise themed Gala.

Alexandra Petropoulos, AAA Auto Club Group's Vice President for Travel, (pictured below) opened the presentation with a comment that really caught my attention. She said that she was excited to be at the Columbia, one of America's best restaurants on 7th Avenue, one of the Country's top 10 most beautiful streets. Wow, when you stop to think about that type of comment, you realize that we are so fortunate to work, play and live in Ybor City.

The Historic District really comes to life during the Holiday Season and for the past forty-eight years the Ybor Chamber Gala has been the kickoff of the season. This year's Gala is almost here, and it has me so excited! The Gala committee has done an excellent job putting this one together. In addition to the Tropical Cruise theme, we will be raffling off a 4 day cruise out of Tampa courtesy of AAA Travel. I hope to see you there as we celebrate Ybor's special night and honor the J.C. Newman Cigar Family with the Adela & Cesar Gonzmart award for their contributions to Ybor City and the American cigar industry!

The second event of the Chamber's Holiday season is just two weeks after Gala. On October 5th we will host the 4th Annual Ybor OktoberFest Pub Crawl. We have 20 venues signed up and are expecting over 400 attendees. This year's event is shaping up to be the best one yet! It is a great way to experience the district with your friends and family at your own pace! You can purchase your tickets online at www.ybor.org and be sure to "Like" our Ybor Oktoberfest Facebook page for updates.

Until next time-

Ybor Chamber Member Spotlight

Carmine's Restaurant is a Tampa tradition, located in the heart of our beloved historic district. Opened in Tampa in 1948 and moved to Ybor City in 1983, Carmine's is known for its Cuban, Italian and Spanish cuisine. The "Flavors of Ybor City" include favorites such as their homemade deviled crab, traditional Cuban sandwich, black beans and yellow rice and spaghetti and meatballs. Brothers Carmine and Gino Iavarone have been at the helm since the passing of their father Eugene in 2001.

Carmine and Gino can always be counted on to participate in our Chamber events. When the Chamber took back the production of Fiesta Day in 2010, Carmine's was one of only four Ybor merchants to join us on 7th Avenue, selling a mini version of their famous deviled crabs. Now, 70 percent of our Fiesta Day vendors are Ybor City vendors.

I've become terribly predictable when I go to Carmine's for lunch. Last week Tom and I stopped in and even before I ordered, Gino informed me that there was plenty of their baked chicken. Did I mentioned how moist and delicious their baked chicken is?
