Ybor Chamber

Member Spotlight

Ybor City is known for its cigar shops, where master cigar rollers demonstrate their skills in the shop windows. Long Ash Cigars is one such Ybor cigar shop. Owned and operated by mother and son, Sandra and Michael Cincunegui, Long Ash Cigars sells only hand rolled, premium cigars, both in their 7th Avenue shop and on-line. Sandra and Michael are continuing a family tradition. Sandra's grandfather, Manuel Cermeno, owned the Chinchal Habanero Cigar Shop in Ybor City in the early 1940's.

You can purchase a premium hand rolled cigar at Long Ash Cigars and then stay and smoke it in their comfortable, stylish lounge. Until they obtain their wine and beer license, you are welcome to bring your own bottle to sip while enjoying your cigar.

Sandra and Michael participated in the Chamber's 7th Annual Ybor Aficionado Days, by providing a hand roller for our After Party at the Italian Club. Since Ybor Aficionado Days celebrates the manufacture of the first cigar in Tampa on April 13, 1886, it is important to have our cigar industry represented at the event, and Long Ash Cigars did our industry proud!

null President's Message

Hola -

It is the end of a long, hot, rainy summer in Tampa Bay and we are very much looking forward to a more interesting, cooler and dryer fall in our beloved Ybor City.  Michele and I took the long-weekend to see our grandchildren in Houston.  It was just as hot there without the relief of daily rain.  As grandparents do, we had been procuring toys in the weeks before - a giant rubber ducky for little Lucy, real dark glasses for styling Trini and a Lego Coast Guard Cutter for Shep (and Daideo).

We always do a bit of "culinary research" when on the road.  We wanted to celebrate Mag's birthday and she picked The Reef, one of Houston best seafood restaurants.  It was one of the few times I have been out to a seafood dinner, where everyone was equally satisfied with their entre.  Known as the "Bayou City," Houston has more than its share of high-quality seafood restaurants.

The Ybor City Chamber has some great events coming-up for your entertainment pleasure:

ˇTuesday, September 10th - Membership Luncheon featuring AAA VP for Travel Alex Petropolous - 11:45 AM, Columbia Restaurant

ˇSaturday, September 21st - 48th Ybor Chamber Gala and 20th Adela and Cesar Gonzmart Award; the black-tie optional event will feature a Caribbean Cruise theme and honor the J.C. Newman Cigar Family- 6:30 PM, Columbia Restaurant, Siboney Room

ˇSaturday, October 5th - Ybor OktoberFest Pub Crawl featuring over 15 of Ybor City's favorite watering holes - 4:00 PM, Centro Ybor.

It's always good to come home to Tampa or Tampa Bay whatever you like to call it.  Come visit us in Ybor City, there is a renewed sense of energy in the Historic District.

Ciao - Tom
