Ybor Chamber Member Spotlight Tampa Bay is fortunate to have twelve YMCA branches, two downtown YMCA Wellness Centers as well as YMCA Camp Cristina in Riverview. Just down the street from Ybor City is the Bob Gilbertson Central City Family YMCA Branch, providing a fully equipped Wellness Center, a group exercise room, semi-heated outdoor swimming pool, two racquetball and two regulation-size basketball courts. Central City Y Senior Group Vice President, Michael Brown, was a Chamber luncheon guest speaker last year. In addition to wellness, the Central City Y provides a safe, nurturing environment for hundreds of our kids through their After School and Kid Zone programs; aquatics, sports teams; and martial arts programs. In addition, their Teen Achievers programs helps youth develop and realize their potential and their summer camp encourages young people to explore the great outdoors and discover who they are. The YMCA has been a part of Tom and my lives since our kids were young in Tallahassee. Nikki and Maggie learned how to swim at the Y and summer day camp was an annual event, as well as a week at Camp Indian Springs. Our girls got to spend time with both of their "camp counselor" cousins and just have fun. And, Tom and I knew they were safe and happy. You can't ask for more than that. - Michele Keating Michael Brown Bob Gilbertson Central City Family YMCA 110 E. Palm Avenue Tampa, FL 33602 813-229-9622 www.tampaymca.org |

Message From The Chair
ˇHola Ybor!
What a year it has been... There has been ups, there has been downs, there has been triumphs, and of course, disappointments. But throughout my term, the laughter and good times far outweigh it all!
It has been quite the journey. I have learned so much about Ybor City (which I didn't think was possible), and I also learned a lot about myself. My life was already so intertwined with Ybor, but because of this journey, my roots have grown that much deeper. I have a greater understanding of why my great, great-grandfather, Casimiro Hernandez, Sr. chose Ybor to call home... and why his son, my grandparents, uncles and father have always stood by her, through all of her ups and downs. Ybor City is a part of all of us, and through that spirit, Ybor will always endure.
One of my father's favorite quotes is "None of us is as strong as all of us," from the infamous Jesuit coach, 'Wild Bill' Minahan - throughout this past year, I have grown a greater appreciation for this saying. Having good people and an even better community behind you, makes all the difference in the world! I would like to thank my Board of Directors, Chamber staff, countless past chairs, and my parents, Melanie and Richard Gonzmart, for helping me through this journey and always giving me guidance and support.
I am so proud to have been given the opportunity to represent my beloved Ybor City.I look forward to the next generation of the Columbia Restaurant that will hopefully lead the chamber, following in the footsteps of the 3rd, 4th and 5thgenerations that proceed... I can only hope that one day I will be bestowed with the honor of swearing in my daughter, Amelia, as the Chairman of the Board for the Ybor City Chamber of Commerce... thinking about it gives me goose bumps!
Thank you to all of my supporters, it's been a fabulous journey, and I look forward to the future of Ybor - because without you, it wouldn't be possible. For the last time...
ˇViva Ybor!
